Where is the best place for the output of the chiller to be located?
Here's my situation: I have a 115-gallon tank with a 20-gallon sump. The sump mainly consists of a filter floss setup, and I don’t use filter socks. I run pellet carbon in a bag beneath the floss, followed by bio balls, an egg crate layer, and then my heaters directly underneath that. The next chamber houses my skimmer, my return pump, and the pump for my chiller.
I didn't plumb this tank myself; it was set up upon delivery, and I'm not entirely happy with it. My main question is regarding the output from my chiller, which is currently discharging into the same chamber as my heaters.
Is this creating a vicious cycle where the chiller is dumping colder water into the chamber, only to have it heated back up by the heaters?
It's getting hot here in Southern California, and my chiller has been running for about 5-6 hours each day over the past two days. I want to ensure that there isn’t a better setup for this system.
