Choosing a wave pump

Hey everyone I’m trying to pick out a power ahead for my five foot tank it’s a mixed reef but not heavily stocked yet. Trying to decide between Ai orbit 4, mp40, or dmp40 (Jebao knock off mp40) let me know if you’ve had any experience with theses pumps and which ones your favorite thanks !

I do not have experience with the AI Orbit, but I like gyre style pumps.

I also don't like knock offs.

Edit: and I'd also use two in that tank if it were mine. Don't need to run them as fast for the same flow, keeps things quieter, can adjust flow easier where you want it to go.

Gyres are great for SPS dominant tanks. If you are not packed with SPS, might as well go with a nero5 or mp40.
I cannot recommend Jecod dmp -- one died on me after 4 months costing me 12 torch heads while I was on vacation. The seller does not respond to any questions about warranty or support.

You might as well buy some Hygger or Jebao powerhead at amazon and get the warranty for $5.

I'd use a gyre if I were you, perhaps two (one on each side) depending on your flow needs. gyres create widespread, gentle, chaotic flow for significantly cheaper than MP vortec pumps. These 2 are my favorites:

just to add - jebao gyres are "ok" and may be cheaper than hygger, but their controllers are TRASH, and the app control is awful. I do not recommend jebao wavemakers for that reason. hygger is better and almost the same price.

I have a 5' tank and use two of the Maxspect jumps linked by @TX_REEF They do a great job creating random flow as well as surface agitation if you want them too.

I’m leaning more towards the gyre style would you use one at the top on one end and the other at the bottom on the opposite side ?

I recommend having them both in the top 25% of the glass panel on each side, at slightly different heights and slightly offset front to back, so the flow streams interfere with each other and create chaotic flow as they converge. you don't really need one down low, because gyres create flow down below just as part of how they function, and unless you are running no substrate, having one down low will create never ending sand storms.

When I tried gyres i found them noisy. They would always start making a whining noise. Cleaning is also a pain compared to traditional PHs. I run 4 MP40s on an 84x30x25" tank and am happy with them.

I have the Jebao Sine Cross flow pump SCP 120 model and its been nothing but good
its going for 7 months now and I have cleaned it twice with out issues the flow patterns are amazing
I dont use the app only the controller very easy to use as well

Oddly when I got my icecap 2k's hooked up to the hydros I needed to invert/reverse their flow, they were extremely noisy before I did that.

Otherwise they only start making noise if I run them at 70%+.

Icecap 2k were one that I tried that were noisy. It was a few years ago and i never thought to change the impellers to reverse the flow. That may have fixed them. Mine would always develop a bubble somehow even fully submerged and then would start whining. I could rotate them and burb the bubble and they would be quite for a week or so then start whining again.

Icecap 2k were one that I tried that were noisy. It was a few years ago and i never thought to change the impellers to reverse the flow. That may have fixed them. I only did it because they were loud and my thought process was this can't be right.... and why is this setting even here.... Poof, magic, quiet :)

I would look at Tunze, the hub edition pumps are amazing and they will outlast all of the pumps listed above. I love my 6075's.
