OK so I had Chrysophytes in my smaller reef tank. I seemed to beat them with a few doses of algae fix.

even tho i try not to share any thing wet between tanks they make it in to my larger FOWLR
so I was thinking to dose algae fix once again.

also note my no3 & po4 are 0 -ATS is doing it job.
that said my ATS is rocking pretty good its about 3 months old now. lots of GHA is removed ever 2 weeks still no turf.

anyway guessing I would/should take the ATS off line before dosing the algae fix.

i'll get some pics

I am surprised the ATS is not taking care of the Chrysophytes? maybe its because the nutrients are low?

I am leaving for 3 weeks vacation so nothing will happen when I get back but wanted a plan.
did my WC, cleans the ATS and skimmer cup. so thinking about this. its been a month or so its been on the rocks.

Your 0s for N and P are why you have the chrysophytes. I wouldn't use Algae Fix to take care of them personally. It doesn't do anything for the root of the problem and most of the times when you get rid of chrysophytes, you get dinos in their place because the root of the problem hasn't been addressed

I was thinking the same but cant seem to get my nutrients up.
on both tanks there 0

I am still stocking the FOWLR its a IM 200P 275 total volume.
I have 1 emp. angel
4 dwarfs
1 xmass wrasse

all fish are bought QTed so stocking is taking longer than expected.
hopefully I will be able to add 2-3 more fish mid nov. but we all know how QT goes.

I do feed 2-3X a day + nori 3X a week
I feed mysis shrimp ,a green blend of frozen I buy as well as TDO pellets
ATS is 18hrs on 6 off
lights are some what med/low but could turn them down and/or shorten the light cycle.

they did no away on the reef after a few doses of algae fix ( not sure that was the fix or not) but then came the GHA in the DT.

my plan was just to wait it out in the FOWLR but the other half did make a comment how my tanks always look ugly...cut pretty deep. sadly its true tho :(

Dose it. It really is the easiest, cleanest, and quickest way.

Ammonium bicarbonate and trisodium phosphate are cheap on A m a z o n. Make some solution and start dosing them.

Other half’s have a great way of cutting the deepest :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

yes,yes they do!

I have always been cautious about dosing n&p to tanks. not sure why tho.
by chance do you have a recipe?

This is what I do:

Phosphate - trisodium phosphate (1.88g in 1L)
Ammonia- ammonium bicarbonate (20g per 1L)

1mL of phosphate should raise 100L of water .01ppm IIRC

So I am still dealing with this. When away for 38 days and it’s got out out hand.
Lucky all fish are ok.

I while back I did try to dose algae fix but somehow it killed all my fish.
Slowly restocking but man this tank is kicking my butt big time. So humbling.

Anyway I do need to get my N&P up.
@rtparty so you have a link to products you use of Amazon.
I see lots of TSP products but most of them say heavy duty cleaner, so I just want to make sure I get the correct trusted and safe product.

Also have not done a water change in 60 days, but my levels are still zero. Was thinking of doing a 25 gallon water chain just manually remove as much as possible and give the tank a bit of refresh. I think that’s a good idea?

Also, I’m running a skimmer and an algae turf scrubber. Should I turn the skimmer off?

I am guessing making your out N&P with the above is a cheaper way then getting the brightwell neo phos.& neo nitro correct?
tank is pretty big so the DIY option might be the way to go.

It’s way cheaper to make your own and you know the exact contents and purity.

I use ammonium bicarbonate from Amazon. Called bakers ammonia. Like $11-12 a bag and it will last you years.

For trisodium phosphate I got the Loudwolf brand off Amazon. I believe trisodium phosphate is used in “cleaners” and I thought I saw Randy mention that in another thread. It’s totally safe so long as it’s just trisodium phosphate and no other ingredients

All that crud is using n and p and locking it up..stuff doesn’t grow with nutrients, it’s basic biology, clean the crud and start doing WC…

that's what I have been doing for the last 6-8 months. clean it off with WC and still comes right back.
I know the concept of what you are saying it just has not worked for me. :(
