Hi all, I know this is a FW question but as well as my RSR 250 reef I have a 50l/13g FW tank that I need to get some more water circulation in. I am looking for a very small form factor, doesn’t need to be controllable, don’t mind if the lead is in the tank. The issue I am trying to solve is that whilst I get good turnover of the water through the top mounted filter (powerhead pumping up, gravity down) the design is such that there is very little surface disturbance and I am getting surface algae growth. O2 is ok as this is a planted tank, but I want to cut down the floating algae.

What are your suggestions as to an appropriate circulation pump?

I am currently looking at the Tunze Turbelle range (obviously the smallest of them). The VorTech MP10 is another option, obviously more expensive and I don’t particularly need to have cords outside, but is a nice looking unit.

Not sure about the Tunze but a mp10 would probably be to much for that tank, I run a Jebao RW4 in my 14 gallon reef and it’s just about perfect for that size.. I also just ordered a little Hydor pico for it to provide extra flow behind my rocks.. I don’t particularly like the two tone red/black housing but it’s inexpensive, gets great reviews, it’s very small and has magnetic mounting system.

Not sure how much you wanna spend. But the Hydor Aqamai is a good little pump it is pricey and it’s controllable.
