Hi guys, just got one quick question. Im looking to get a clam in my tank once the tank is fully ready. The question is, have anyone ever succeeded in raising a clam long term
with T5 bulbs?

I don’t keep clams. But I’ve seen them in tanks with all different types of lighting. I’ve even seen them thrive in tanks with cheap LED strip lighting. Since T5s spread light more evenly than LED and blanket the bottom better where clams generally are kept, I don’t see why T5 would be anything but the best choice.

Thank you so much. That was comforting.

They need sps level lighting. If sps grows at where you will put them you should be fine. Ideally you should borrow or rent a par meter. 200 par or above is the best but I put mine at around 170

I have a t5 led hybrid setup. My gigas clam and derasa clam only sit at 150 par and love it. Putting on size fast I highly recommend derasa clams as a beginner they survive a wide range of lighting

Thanks guys,
I have a 8bulb T5 fixture. 4 Ati lights and 4 white grow light. I also have 2 orphek LED strip. Is this good enough? I plan on getting a derasa and a maxima.

If the clams aren’t going to be buried under rock, that sounds like way more than enough light. Do you have pics?

Don’t worry with all that light. You should be close to 300 par on the bottom of a regular size tank.
I hope so...I really want them to flourish however I also dont want to overkill with too much light, it might be too much for the lps and softies.

Clams will take light like champs, most softies will as well they just don’t require it. Lps are the finicky ones for sure

I'll start to acclimate the guys to tall light mose to see how much they can take. So far I only run the 4 ATI bulbs and LED haven't ran the white grow light yet. I plan on running it for 2hrs in the dayto form the afternoon mode. [emoji1696] it'll be great if the guys can handle it.

Thanks @ScottR. That's really comforting to know. Guess it's time for some clam [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
I was just looking at clams yesterday. Huge clams with beautiful blue and purple. I want one but perhaps I’ll wait. They really are beautiful creatures.

Clams are very beautiful animals. They actually one of the reason I started this hobby. I had 2 addy different times but they both didn't make it. My tank was still new at the time. Now I'm a loud knowledgeable with a more established tank. Can't wait to get them.

Go with easier ones first such as Deresa or maxima
