Hi,
I am a high school Biology teacher and this year we have started a 180 reef tank in our classroom. The students are actively involved in its care and maintenance. We are all learning a lot from the experience and are glad to be part of this forum. Our goal is to reproduce a little piece of a tropical reef in our classroom. We welcome any suggestions or input any of you may have to offer as we take this journey.

We started at the beginning of the school year with a bare tank. From there we have been able to add equipment and skill as our tank has taken shape. We have tried several different types of LED lighting and our current set-up includes 3 Kessil 360we pendent lights along with 2 Evergrow LED banks. We are running a 75 gallon sump with a refugium. In the tank we are moving water with 2 Ecotech MP40s.

As for livestock, we have added some coral and fish but we have a long way to go. My students love the tank and I am so glad to have it in my classroom. If any of you have had a tank in your classroom I would love to hear the different ways you used it as an educational tool.

So far in our journey we have been blessed to have the help of the Pacific Northwest Marine Aquarium Society and its members, Coralife and Kent Marine, LRS Reef Frenzy foods, Algae Free and many others. Julian from Crystal Reef Aquatics has been instrumental in helping us get this far. We are looking forward to an educational partnership with Legendary Corals as we continue to make our reef and exceptional example. We want to thank each and every one of them for their help and support.

I will add more photos to this thread as our reef grows and matures.

Love it. I love seeing kids learn. Teaching anything from symbiotic relationships to habitats, food chains, nitrogen and carbon cycles, water flow and chemistry of saltwater, conservation and so much else. Love seeing this!

We received a shipment from @LegendaryCorals that I wanted to show off! All the frags came in last week and all are looking great! We are anxious for them to grow out and become full colonies in our tank. The team at Legendary Corals have been the best to work with and we appreciate their support! 20160308_173241.jpg 20160311_141753.jpg 20160314_111737_001.jpg 20160314_112039.jpg 20160314_111954.jpg 20160308_172758.jpg 20160314_112116_001.jpg 20160314_112024.jpg 20160314_111945_001.jpg

So excited to receive a shipment of Pods and Phytoplankton from AlgaeBarn! I'm anxious to get them in our tank and boost the overall health of our system! I would love to add a Mandarin Goby to the tank and now I feel that we've got the necessary nutrients for one to be healthy in our system. Thanks so much to Lan and his crew @AlgaeBarn!
