March 15, 2018 was a great day. I finally received a beautiful, huge, mouthwatering lineaged Cherry Corals Colorado Sunburst anemone from CrabbyCorals.

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/colorado-sunburst-nem.368540/

Below are photos of how it look straight out of the bag. The yellow tips are electrical. The orange tentacles are beautiful and that green lantern oral disc is mouth watering.

I love watching my clowns play around in their CSB nems. But there is always one clown that thinks he owns the joint.

This video was recorded on 3.3.18.

After killing off (4) Colorado Sunburst anemones a few months ago, I told myself that if I ever got my hands on another CSB, that I would never frag it. My plan would be to just grow it out amd wait for it to split on its own.

On 04.03.18, that all changed. I fed all my clowns brine shrimp and target fed each of my (3) CSB's. After 1 hour, I came back to my IM25 Lagoon amd kept admiring how big the (2) Mximus CSB's were growing. I'm not sure if it was the daily target feeding (brine shrimp & LRS reef frenzy) of food, but within the the 6+ weeks that ai've owned them, the size looked like a exponential growth.

So, I walked over to my toolbox, found the DeWalt razor blade and with an impulse, started to prepare the fragging. I know. I know. I promised not to frag another CSB, but the temptation was still there. I carefully pulled the rock and with a Qtip, I slowly agitated the foot to remove the adhesion. I let the CSB sit inside of an acclimation box while I prepared the cut.

One thing I realized when I cut into the CSB, is to never frag a nem the same day you feed it. As soon as I cut majority of the CSB in half, undigested brine shrimp started oozing out. This definitely made ot difficult to get a clean cut. Eventually, I was able to cut the rest in half and placed the 2 halves into their own container. I let the nems sit for 10 minutes, before I placed them into an acclimation box.

When you watch the video, you will see that both halves looked pretty bad. I thought that I had killed another CSB during fragging (if I did, I still have 2 other CSB's). The following morning, I checked on the CSB's and they started to look alot better. Once I came home from work, both looked even better. The tentacles were fully stretched out, while the oral disc and foot were looking better.

Below are videos during the fragging and 1 day after. I named the YouTube videos as (How not to) Frag a Colorado Sunburst anemone. I will regularly post up photos and/or videos of the (2). Eventually, I will be cutting my other mother CSB in half. I am debating if I should cut the lineaged Cherry Corals Colorado Sunburst...hmmmmm.

Fragging Day 1

Boy oh boy, I have been on a mission to cut everything in sight.

I was staring at the CSB#2 and looking at how big her oral disc was. One of the little devils on my shoulder told me to cut her in half, while the other little devil was telling me to cut the lineaged Cherry Corals CSB in half.

Well, one of the little devils won. So I decided to cut the CSB#2 on 4/8/18 around 8pm.

At first, I carefully removed her off the rock. I got her on the chopping board, but she started to spew out all that half digested brine shrimp. So I decided, maybe I shouldn't cut her. Around 10pm, I passed by the tank again a d she just looked too good, so I pulled her out, cut her in half and placed both halves in seperate containers.

Below are photos of how she looked before and after the cut.

I will also post videos of the pre and post fragging. Sorry that I don't have a video of the actual fragging, but nobody was around to hold my phone as I was doing the cutting.

Man I envy you. If you need a big surgical blade let me know. It is sharper than any dewalt blade you have :). A dermatome skin graft blade is perfect for your surgical procedure.

Very brave man. Dibs if you selling!!

Thanks. I've killed a CSB before, so I really don't have a fear if I kill another one.

Unfortinately, I am not going to sell any splits. I am planning to keep a tank full of CSB's.

Beautiful, If you decide to part out let me know!

At this time, I am planning on keeping all splits. My goal is to have a tank or two full of CSB's.

The bright colors that these display are unreal. You get to see the brightest oranges, yellow and green.

Thanks for the offer. If I decide to try one of your surgical knives, I'll let you know. Maybe I'll be able to throw the CSB in the air and go Fruit Ninja on it. LOL.

Nicely done ;) healing up quick. I'd be interested in a split in the future

Yes, these CSB's heal very fast. But who knows, maybe I am getting lucky with these two. Good genes I guess. Thanks again @Maximus .

As for the splits, I don't plan on selling any. I want to see how a tank full of these CSB's look.

Good luck.

Sweet!! Good luck on the splits! They look really good, especially the 1st one!

Thanks. The good genes provides these beauty's to heal like Wolverine.

EVERYONE is interested in a split, just for the record!

I can see that the CSB market is high in demand. It took me quite a while to get my CSB's.

If anyone is interested, please join the anenome marketplace Facebook group. There are many reefers in that group that sell wonderful looking nems.

Good luck everybody.

Last night was a trip. I got home around 4pm and wait straight to my tank. I checked on all the CSB's and they were all happy and flowing. Around 8pm, I saw one of the CSB #1's shrunk up and hiding inside of a hole in one of my rocks. I also noticed a little bit of brown jelly coming out of her.
I remember reading an article about nems, that if they go into hiding inside of a hole, there is a good chance that the nem is going to melt/die off.

The first thing that came into my head was the quote in Terminator 2, "Come with me if you want to live." So I pulled the rock out and started chipping away. I got a couple of Qtips and slowly removed part of the foot off. Eventually, I was able to get the CSB out from the hole and placed it inside of a breeder box.

Here is a photo of how CSB #1a looked after pulling it out from the rock. She's a little tiny, about 1" in size.

2 photos of how she looked after getting some r&r in the breeder box for 1 hour. She started to fill out and getting back to 1.5" - 2.0" in size.

My lesson learned this evening is to cover up the larger sized holes in my rockscape, so these little beauty's can move and plant their foot onto any parts of the rock without getting stuck inside of a hole.

CSB group #2
Day 5

Alright, quick update on CSB group #2. As you can see, they have healed pretty well and looking pretty good. Once they settle in, it'll be nice to see their nice, vibrant orange tips.

I'll be releasing them from their cages in a few days and place them on the rockwork for the next 3 -4 months. After they puff and fully heal, all (4) will go under the knife to get sliced and diced up.

And here is a sweet looking group photo of both CSB's.

Real question in everyone's minds, how big is your box Wesley. [emoji12] Nice work on the splits sir! You're going to give hoarders a run for their money!
