Colorblind Reefers?

Hey y’all! So I just had a man who was colorblind buy some zoas from me and it got me thinking, how do colorblind people stock their tanks? Is it mostly just based on textures or do they try to stick to the colors they can see? Like do red/green colorblind people try to avoid red and green corals? How do they choose where to put their corals? What do their tanks look like? If you’re colorblind, I’d love to see a pic of your tank!

It depends on what type of color blind you are. It's very uncommon for someone to be completely color blind. I have red-green(Protanomaly) and mild blue-yellow(tritanomaly). I can't see the difference between the yellow and red traffic lights when they are flashing. Have to rely on the placement of the light. I also can't see any of the numbers with the red and green dots on the color blind tests.
I buy corals that I think look good. I buy corals that look different colors to my eyes. Also, my wife will help out and let me know if I think something is one color when it is in reality a different color. Here if a full tank shot from about a month ago.

I am colorblind in the blue black section. The darker blues look black to me. I literally have people correct me. Lol!
For me i buy a lot of matte colored corals. The neon is kool but i prefer the more drab colors... lol!

Hmm. Interesting question. I’m red/green deficient but I’d say I have more red and green than anything else. For me, it’s the shades of those colors that I don’t see very well.

Science can’t actual prove anybody sees colours the same way.
I buy coral that i like, and sometimes it ends up not being the colour i thought it was. The colour blind effect for me means i don’t perceive colours in pictures very well.
Basically means i don’t buy coral online because they don’t look the same as in person.
The variations in lighting people use changes coral colours as well

I believe no one sees the same. Theyre are.diffrences in shades. The.color i can make out maybe but the shade.differs.

Wow guys thanks for the insight!! @DH78 your tank looks awesome and it’s super different from the crazy neon tanks I’m used to seeing. It’s so cool to see how thé colorblindness affects what you buy and the placement of everything

I'm color blind. Mainly blue / purple ( almost bought a barney purple Ford ranger back in the day. Luckily my dad was with me to let me know it wasn't blue.) Some red/green and like the user above I have a hard time with blinking red / yellow lights. They aren't on long enough for me to process the color, however a standard traffic light I have no issue with.

I stock my tank with coral that look good to me. If I buy a blue coral hoping it was purple, meh no big deal. I try and vary my placement so I don't have a ton of one color in one spot.

For testing, I downloaded an app on my phone that tells me the color of the test. Has worked really well with tritation tests.

I have some with trouble with greens and browns. Allot of the time I just couldn’t tell you what color they are but if they look cool I buy.
My issue is testing. I have to have my son or wife help me because I normally can’t see the small changes.

I cant see colors inside of colors as well as only see predominant colors in a group. Flourescents Trump that. The darkest, brightest colors Trump everything.
I try to go for what is pleasant to look at with my own eyes. Lots of vivid, sharp vibrant colors for me otherwise everything just looks the same and super bland.

We do what everyone else does. Buy corals that we like.. color, texture, size all go into it but preference is completely subjective to people who see all colors and no colors alike.

It’s really neat though, because there’s so many different textures within the same coral (like montis) and I think that it’s really cool to see how those kinds of corals get placed when color isn’t really an applicable variable
