Hello R2R

I just started stocking my new 150g tank and I ended up with a cbb from a trusted source whose had him for a approximately 5 weeks and is eating 100%.

He’s not skinny and eats from the water column.

I’ve had him approximately 5 days and noticed this thing on his side.
6C6EDCB6-A5E5-4926-A42D-8BD42A6383F6.jpeg

He appears otherwise well.

He’s eating well.

I read the article by Paul and have been feeding freshly frozen scallops and clams however hes used to spirulina mysis.

In all regards he acts healthy but this is bugging me.

I only have a few fish in the tank and there’s no corals just yet so I could do what is needed and necessary to treat if this looks to appear to be something to be concerned with?

There’s a single white spot on its tail as well that I’m unsure if it’s a blemish from rockwork or it’s attributed to the spot I took pictures of.

The spot is noticeably visible and it’s fleshy looking.

The cbb is 100% eating and not lethargic at all.

And idea what this is and if I should do anything at this moment?

Thank you in advance!

Can you post pics / video under white light? The blue obscures the details.

Thanks,
Jay

Looks like a result of mechanical injury which should heal on its own. The tail has a little fin ray issue which should be fine.
Keep an eye on area to assure it does not become red or sore. If you dont have any, would be a good time to have some seachem kanaplex on hand in the event treatment needed. Ruby Rally pro will also work but will take a little longer

Yes but it’s less then half the size of the cbb snd was there before the cbb.

Biota yellow tang

You think my tang did this?

He’s tiny 2-3” and the cbb is like 3.5-5” hard to tell but he’s much bigger

You think the fish looks relatively healthy?

I have kanaplex and a whole fish pharmacy essentially from when I was raising my discus.

This is relieving to hear

If fish is eating and breathing normal, overall looks good
What foods are you offering it?

It will eat some reef nutrition food the store was offering but me personally

1)I bought the food they were feeding that I watched him eat
2)lrs
3) reef fusion
4)spirulina brine
I make a cocktail with this stuff and feed approximately 1-2 ml a day

5) freshly frozen clams
1 a day

6) finely shaved scallop
5-10piece a day sliced paper thin

I also have the option of live black worms if he stops eating however that hasn’t been the case just yet.

I’m feeding over kill atm honestly but I just need to make sure he stays happy and fat

Tank mates atm are
1)very small biota yellow rang
1) midas
1) flame hawk
1) possum wrasse
1) serpent star
9) nassarius snails to eat the leftover food
4) strawberry conchs leftover food on sand bed

Cool! Got to warn you not to pollute the tank by over feeding the fishes. They will always beg for more but sometimes less is better. IF you are doing massive water changes everyday you can feed like crazy. I like to feed twice each day and let them be a bit hungry once they are settled in. Overfeeding creates bad water stress that can negate the benefits of the awesome diet. In other words, go carefully. These little fishes can live off of almost nothing and be fine, whereas over endulging them can work against your goals.

Just something to consider.

Also, there does seem to be a little funk on the CB's tail. With good water, feeding, and low stress I would hope that will disappear on its own. Same with the bump on its side, unless it happens to have some skin paracyte? If it gets worse the crew on here will provide expert solutions for treatments. GL.

Just seeing your new pics/videos this morning....thanks.

I agree, looks like a minor injury. There is a touch of Lymphocystis on the tail fin, but that is of no worry.

You're aware that CBB are very delicate, and of course, this fish could have other issues that haven't shown up yet, but it appears you have a good handle on the feeding aspect.

Thank you.

I’m glad the photos weren’t too blurry.

He ears like a freaking champion and I’ve begun to use selcon everyday to really bring out the healthy fish.

Water quality is still pretty good even though I’ve been feeding like crazy this week.

Still under 20ppm nitrate normal reef parameters as well.

Still only 3 months in but only 3 weeks with lights on.

I’m happy that’s he’s been given the green light as I was super concerned.

Bless.

Thank you!
