So coral beauty angels come in all different colors, and it seems like no two look alike. Some like mine are very orange, others are almost completely blue.
Does this reflect any location variants or is it completely random what colors they turn out?

I think it’s just the fish when it comes to the more blue or more orange. When it comes to the actual pattern I think it’s the variation in origin. So, the ones from Mauritius have the beautiful tiger tail (Some are totally red but I’m pretty sure they’re the hybrids) whereas ones without the tiger tail seem to be mostly from indonesia.
I.E. This is one most likely from indonesia

and this is a Mauritian

As for the amount of each colour I think that’s just completely dependant on the specific specimen you’re talking about.

Seems that the captive bred ones from Biota tend toward more orange-not sure if that reflects ancestry/origin or something related to the rearing and artificial food. I have one and she is certainly very orange (beautiful) but not nearly as orange/tiger tailed as the Mauritian one pictured above.

The one I had hardly had any orange at all... it was almost 100% blue/black. you could only see a little orange when it turned at a certain angle. it was mean and had to go. chased all my other fish around.

" it was mean and had to go. chased all my other fish around."

Maybe because it was always feeling a little blue.

Bad joke, I know. I couldn't help it.
