T5 seems to offer many arrays of spectrums although many wholesalers have stuck with Proven MH lighting

Yeah ive had peeps try and talk me into going to mh. I just cant do it. Im getting an 8 bulb 48” fixture for free.
Gotta figure out if i want to just run that or try to mount my lights in it

You cannot pop color that is not truly there. You need both.

I will caution you that the desire to pop will wane over time. It seems as people get more experience, they grow tired of the "beer goggles" and just want somebody who looks good all of the time. I would shoot for true color first.

Seems like adding T5s and a ReefBrite would still be less than $600 and probably more of a sure thing.
I would also consider the Orphek led bar, adds a lot of pop and cheaper than the reefbrite. Definitely listen to Jda, he gives great advice on lighting!!!!

Appreciate it. Yes his reputation precedes him. Thinking back i never did just ask him what he would do. Minus the blackboxes.

Hi everyone - quasi-off-topic..... For the life of me I cannot find Sanjay's website, where you can compare spectral plots of specific halide bulb-ballast combinations.... Does anyone have a link?

Thank you

I would personally add one of the orphek bars. Never cared for MH and t5 are nice, but I like mounting my lights up pretty high and without canopy there is just so much light spill.

@oreo5457 @jda

So im going to go pick up the 8 bulb t5 fixture today. Its free so cant beat that.
A question though. Which would be better

My black boxes i have with the orphek bars....which bar?

The t5 fixture with a couple bulbs replaced with orphek bars. So like 6 t5 bulbs 2 orphek?

Or my black boxes with the t5 fixture

Cool link..
What data is available on this site?
This website has the following data available for over 900 metal halide lamps and ballast combinations:

Probably can't get 85% of that stuff anymore.. ;)

So brs comes out with a video talking about lighting today.... lol

I really like the look of the orphek bars. I am going to be moving to a 75 gallon tank soon. So should i get the 48” bars or would the 36” be ok

reefs.com/lighting had all of Dr. Joshi's results from his extensive MH and even LED tests. Had spectrum from 300 to 1000nm (I think) to help the advanced thinkers and researchers who go beyond the visible range. It was the best lighting site on the planet, IMO, with actual spectral testing with low to high end equipment. This stuff should be up somewhere - I would donate a bit for people to be able to use it if cost was the reason that it was taken down.

Edit: and the data from Dr. Joshi was independent... which was a good cross check from manufacturer data, which has gotten increasingly more smoothed out lately.
