thanks guys - this explains - I have a 150 but not in a position to risk it as it’s my main tank with established fish and corals. Well I don’t want to keep him in unpleasant condition so best for him is to be relocated

I'm glad I found this thread! Sorry for your troubles but this may have just saved me as I've somewhat been looking for a Red Coris.

So follow up - what can I keep with it ? I heard a Sohal tang , what else ?
Honestly… Not much at all.
These guys are nasty in a tank that small and they truly do want 6-7’ tanks. I take back my thought, yours isn’t even a male yet. Yours is just a sexually mature female, the males are worse with aggression and are even more different.
The actual colouring of Coris gaimard males is this;
203B57C8-7B64-4AE1-ADC9-96C12F14F067.jpeg

And honestly, when they get to that size they’re really wanting 8’+ tanks.
For other fish you can keep with them;
Sohal tang
Clown tang
Eels
Lionfish
(Huge) Angels
Triggerfish
Rabbitfish
Mata Tang
Fowleri Tang
Ringtail Tang
other nasty Wrasses (Not any of the common ‘pretty’ ones we keep).

But if we look at that list… the majority of them are fish that few reefers want in their tanks because of aggression or diets. And most of those guys need 8’ tanks and bigger.
