Could this be a good water container?

Is this something usable?
Any ideas on other, better containers without breaking the bank?

A friend of mine has a a few of these...
pic for representation. Not actual container but he has exactly the same ones.

They were used for a car detailing operation. Can they be used?
I believe they had soap water in them previously.
I can get 2 or 3 of them for FREE!
If usable, how to clean them so they are reef safe?

I use brute containers they are fairly cheap and work great I know a lot of other people use them as well.
I have two of them but they are not big enough for what I want to do.
I used to use them for water changes on my 110gal.
Drain the tank into one of them, fill from the other one.

I want larger so I can store water and do auto water changes.
The 32 gallon containers just ain't enough for the 180gal tank i have now.

I'm confused.
There were other posts in this thread that seem to have disappeared.

What happened?

I’d be nervous about the soap residue but maybe someone else will chime in with a way to clean them. Regarding your earlier comment on Brute cans, they come in 44 gallon and 55 gallon sizes too. I’m using a pair of 55’s for my mixing station right now and find them to be a good size. An alternative is to find a farm supply place near where you live and see what they have AND what they can order in. You often don’t end up paying the shipping with those places, or a better rate anyway.

Mods...
It looks like i have the same thread 2 times. Two separate threads.
I don't know how that could have happened but...

Can you fix it? Merge the two threads into one?

Go with white poly or Rubbermaid Brute can . Most important is that the container is food grade safe

I wouldn’t get used containers even if they were free. Who knows what chemicals they were around at a car shop and I wouldn’t know how to test whether they were decontaminated. The lives of my animals are not worth the risk.

How big of a container are you looking for?

A 32 gallon grey brute trash can is about $30 at Lowe’s where I live. White and grey brute containers are food safe. Other colors may or may not be.

Whatever container you get, imagine taking off the lid and scrubbing the bottom of the container with a rag. You’ll need to be able to clean the whole thing out on a semi-regular basis. Can you do it easily? If so, and it’s an unused food grade container, it’s a good one.

I'm looking for over 200gal.
I want to fill it, use it and fill it again in a month or two.
The large industrial ones would work best but they are expensive.

BRS told me that I can clean them with vinegar and water but I'm not sure so I'm looking for advice from the community on cleaning.

BRS told you could clean used ones from a car detail shop with vinegar and water? Or they said you should use vinegar and water to clean out your water bins in general? I would be very specific about where those bins have been (and don’t assume they’ve only had soapy water in them).

They said I can clean the used container of soap residue out of the container using vinegar and water with a pump.

I can get a 275gal that had soy oil in it. Price is $75. Can this be cleaned out for use with reef tank?
