I got used live rock thats been dry for a long time from someone. I'm wondering what the appropriate steps would be, I read some threads saying to soak it in 1:10 bleach dilution, currently its in my bath tub with that dilution where i had a powerhead on but it made the bathroom smell like a pool, that strong chlorine smell so i turned it off.
My main worry is the dried up worms/pests actually inside it, will those cause an issue if theyre actually within the rock? any tips at all?

Let the bleach work for at least a day…

Ideally, soak in RODI water for a few days after, preferably with direct sunlight to neutralize the bleach, and try to pull out some of the old phosphate, and introduced copper from the tap water…

You’re definitely going to need a dedicated container for water mixing/holding for general tank maintenance needs, so I’d recommend getting one of those to start!
(Specifically, a container designed for holding potable water… live rock has a tendency to absorb chemicals/etc from the water it’s in, subsequently leeching them back out over time…)

i would leave it in bleach for a few days at least just to make sure. after you soak in rodi let it completely dry and doesnt smell at all like bleach just to be safe. rocks are so porous it will take about a week or so to get rid of the smell depending on humidity and if you are in a sunny place
