I would agree, maybe with a stock Dodge Minivan blurring plates might be extreme. But on someone's modified Honda, it's an easy steal and even easier to part out.
All I can say is I've spent many years playing with cars. A stolen car can maybe can be tracked. His $15,000 built motor is much more difficult to find. 100%, people use the internet to steal these things.

you can sometimes look up a vin with the license plate number. which leads me to the pet peeve of the hour....

I will admit I've never tried but as Jalopnik pointed out its a simple as filling out a form in the DMV. Or at least it was in years past. Maybe they've improved it. To me, that's not a farfetched idea though. But I might be an idiot. Lol.
