Cursed candy cane cursed

That's my cursed candy cane. I thought it was dead a year ago. Then it came back and has been doing well for months. But two days ago it shrank down to skeleton again. Any ideas?

There are palys at the base and a frogspawn not far away, so maybe it was stung. But what else should I consider?

Everything else living the the tank is fine and water params are all good and stable. Anything these guys are particularly sensitive to?

Nothing new. Clowns. Wrasses. Gobys. Royal Gramma. A swallowtale Angel, but they're not supposed to bother corals and she's left my others alone.

Ever try dipping it and seeing if anything is living in its skeleton? Could be a gall crab in a bad spot or a worm that made a cozy home inside it.
