CUT TORCH CORAL FRAG IN HALF

Had to do an emergency cut on my torch coral frag cause my 15 head torch fell onto a rock flower cause of how heavy it got, I didnt have a dremel or badnsaw on me so i used a bone cutter but it ended up getting cut in half. I glued the bottoms together but theres still a massive crack. Is there anything i can do or just chuck it before its polyps float around and kill some other coral? Barely any flesh to begin with aswell

I’ve had this with my hammers.

They lived fine, I glue the cracked pieces back together while taking care to not let the flesh detach.

They’re still doing well with good polyp extension after several months, but I can tell it’s not 100% attached. It’s slowly recovering though

Might be a bit different with torches as they’re a bit more sensitive, but I’d just be patient.

Maybe administer antibiotics dip if you have one.

Rebuild missing parts of skeleton with superglue

Place the pieces together the way they align. Glue along the seam on all sides. Any missing sections rebuild with superglue. Consider it reconstructive surgery

So I should just fill in the gaps with some coral glue? It doesnt line up as little verticle pieces of the skeleton broke off aswell. You sure the cut flesh band would be fine with that.

Yes fill the gaps with coral glue.

Try not to glue the flesh band but the spots the flesh band would grow. To allow the flesh band a smooth surface to regrow over

Didn't glue the best though the torch is already expanding its tentacles and seems healthy for a coral thats been shaded over for over a month now not mentioning being cut in half.

Here is a 2 head hammer that came in, the smaller head looks like it was sliced in half. There is no skeletal wall on the inside to hold the polyps in. They just sagged out when it attempted to open.

Examining out of water I found the larger head had damage and a skeletal piece broken off, but dangling by flesh connected to it

I rebuilt the missing wall with superglue, and reattached the broken chip

And a few days later

And a few weeks later
