Cuttlefish mangrove tank.

I honestly don't know I've never kept cuttlefish, I just know some things don't like bright light. A dimly lit tank usually works better for nocturnals

yeah, I asked about that too and they said yup. How hard was it to hatch them? What did you have to do?

Pretty easy, if I remember just put them somewhere with just a little flow to gently rock them, and leave them be. Once hatched; Reef conditions, very stable, not perfect, just no drastic changes. So no big water changes or large doses of anything. So you want your tank stable before you proceed.

Thanks! I have another question is there a type of cuttlefish that might fit a 12-25 gallon tank? If not idk if I can really do another large tank. I'm just looking for a fish that will be a change but can still be in a nano tank. Still really want to do a cuttlefish tho

You could keep a single in a 25g, nothing smaller and likely not more than one.

I heard the best way to get the max amount of life out of them to is to buy the eggs and raise them from there on, but I don't know how ideal that is since I've never kept them. If you have Instagram, I highly recommend reaching out to tobis_reef , he's super knowledgeable about cuttlefish in general, he took care of some species a while ago but now he's breeding / raising some Flamboyant Cuttlefish so I bet he can answer any question you have

The light of the tank is going to be the light of the tank, as far as the cuttlefish is concerned

What I mean is, if it's dark in one spot and bright in another, it's irrelevant. To the animal, it's relatively bright.


Honestly given that they are nocturnal I don't see the payoff. One year with a nocturnal cephalopod in a tank that's super bright for the mangrove.

I suggest either go cuttlefish tank or mangrove tank but do not mix them because there is no point. No natural symbiosis other than personal desire.

Well, I saw a blue striped pipefish at my lfs and somehow he ended up in my tank :p When I was there I saw a super awesome rimless tank with a sweet stand for $230. The tank didn't come home with me however I keep thinking about getting it and making it into a pipefish/mangrove/macro algae tank. Does that sound like a good idea to yall? Thanks!

Haha during the summer this seemed like a great thing to do but now with school I barely have time to take care of my pre-existing tanks. Although I did set up this little diy freshwater thing idk how to explain it lol

are you prepared to pay about $600+ per year in live food? Is there anyone around you that sells live shrimp? Cuttlefish have a short lifespan. If you can get them to reproduce you may be able to keep the aquarium running for some time. Otherwise plan on replacing them about once a year. With that being said if you can deal with the above and give them an aquarium with reef aquarium water quality then they would be amazing pets. Very interesting animals. In the future when I have more time and room for another aquarium I think I will keep a pair and try to breed them. Good luck

Question, will baby cuttlefish eat live blackworms? I have a clutch of cuttlefish eggs 3 have hatched and are doing great on live pods and live brine shrimp. I buy live blackworms to get finicky eaters eating, and like to add them into my feeding rotation. So I am really wondering if they will eat the live blackworms? I couldn't find any info on the web to suggest they would or wouldn't. Hoping someone here as more insite. I don't want to add them if they won't eat them.
