I have been using cyano clean along with Zeo Back for about 4 weeks now, to rid my tank of cyanobacteria. I have noticed that my NO3 level has stayed the same at 2.5 ppm. Before using cyanoclean I always had to dose my 4% NO3 stock solution (calcium nitrate) every other day to maintain this (2.5ppm) NO3 level. If I did not dose the NO3 solution the level would go back to O after 2 -3 days. Cyanoclean works by establishing a bacteria that outcompetes the cyanobacteria for nutrients. Could this new bacteria be having any effect on the original bacteria in my tank that is/was responsible for lowering the NO3 to zero?

I don't know but how would you rate the KZ cyanoclean?

Your 4 weeks in, is your cyano going away or gone?

Thanks, GoVols

If cyanobacteria are dying for any reason, I'd imaging their nutrients are being released to the water.
Thanks Randy for your reply. Let me clarify my situation a bit more. It's a 250 gallon tank. 5 mp40 powerheads, clean bottom no sand. I have always done 10% water changes/week with coral pro salt. There's only a small amount of cyano, maybe 1% of the rock has it at most. It also grows on the cheato in the sump and use to grow on a thin amount of coral sand that covered the refugium bottom, I removed the sand weeks ago. It always comes back on the same rocks after siphoning it off (carib sea life rock) and the cheato after cleaning it off in discarded water during water change. Does Caribsea life rock leach phosphates?
FYI: I have never been able to measure any phosphates in my tank because of the cyano growth.

I don't think there's that much cyano dying to have that kind of effect on the nitrate to that extent. That's why I thought it might be having an effect on the original bacteria in tank, responsible for lowering NO3.

The cyano still persists. Although, it looks like it has loosened it's grip on the tank/refugium somewhat since starting the cyanoclean, zeobac and coral snow regime. It is definitely less prevalent in the refugium but insists on growing on certain rocks in the main tank. I siphon it off during the weekly water change only to have it grow back before the next water change. The rest of the tank looks great all the time. I will continue to use the before mentioned korallin products for the 8 week period as stated on the bottle. I will let you know the results.

Thank you. :)

If you are having cyano die off then Randy's response makes perfect since.

Please keep us updated as you reach the 8 week point.
