Hi guys I have been battling cyano bacteria for the last 6 months. Ive tried chemic clean over 10 times, I've performed so many water changes. My phosphates are pretty high (0.3) I am working on bringing it down, but it seems no matter what I do I just cant win this fight.

Alk 7.5-8
Calcium 415
Magnesium 1400
Phosphate .3
Nitrate 20
ammonia 0
nitrite 0

Any advice will be greatly appreciated because this is a pain, I would also like to note anytime I perform water changes while destroying the cyano I end up getting dinos.

In my case, WC can bring dinos and/or cyano. I’m cursed…
Honestl
Chemi used correctly 10x would have destroyed Cyano. It can return, but should have killed the bacteria.

Are you sure it’s Cyano and not Dino’s?

You have full tank shot, and close up of an affected area?
This is what it looks like right now it seems like Dino’s have came back but also some cyano. Maybe I’m wrong though.

It looks like Dino's to me and possibly some cyano. You need to use a microscope and identify what you are dealing with. Each type can be different to treat. Macks dinoflagellates group on Facebook is the best resource.

Its what I believe to be the case too Im just kind of confused on what to actually do because when I wipe most of the cyano the dinos come.

I have a 4-stage rodi filter. I do test and my TDS is 0 or 1. I’ve had my rodi tested twice on an ICP test and it’s perfect.

I’m cursed.
I could be in the same boat as you. Seems like water changes hurt more then help its sad too because my corals are pretty upset now. I used to never do water changes but my problems came so I was doing them more and more and it seems ive disturbed everything. Wish I had just left everything alone.

I can’t do water changes. I just did a 3.5 gallons one to replace some of my water I used for new fish and it brought on cyano bad. I haven’t been able to do water changes ever since the tank was set-up (upgrade) a year ago.

I’m starting to think it might be the salt because I started using it about the same time this started. I won’t be using Instant Ocean anymore.

Im sorry that you have to deal with this also. This wouldn't bother me as much if I was still doing a predatory tank haha, but now my torches have gotten ticked off.

Some Dinos are toxic and you need to add carbon.

Thank you for this advice ima go to the fish store tomorrow then. Is this is a common occurrence that ticks corals off? I ask because my parameters are pretty good and everything is mad.

Brother I’ve had it for 3 years. It started out like yours, but over time it’s slowly coming back less and less.

I just blow it off the rocks, and my gobies keep the sand clean. I’ve used the hydrogen peroxide treatment and it works well but it’s doesn’t fox the root cause, and everytime you add something new you could be getting it again if not dipped for it.

I've fought a and beat bacterial problems a few times ,it's usually due to no/low beneficial bacteria outcompeting the dinos/cyano. Doing a large water change and doing something like microbacter7 has put my tank back on track multiple times, as long as I ensure that I can feed the tank to keep the nutrients high enough for the bacteria. Funny enough, if your bubble algae is stripping out the nutrients it could also be causing an issue, have you tested nitrates/phosphates recently?

The nitrates were at 20 and phosphate .3. It’s not bubble algae btw the picture just looks bad. It seems to be a combination of Dinos and cyano.
