Cynarina spawn

I was watching TV tonight, which usually means I'm watching the 65 that is next to the TV, when I noticed the Bangaiis darting around like they were eating something. They're the only fish in the tank. I went over to the tank to see what all of the excitement was about and noticed what appeared to be small eggs floating in the water. That's what they were eating.

I started looking around to see where the eggs were coming from and called my wife over to help look. We both looked at the cynarina at the moment it released a tremendous cloud of eggs. They appeared to be mixed with a somewhat milky cloud, but I have no idea if it was sperm and don't know if the coral can produce both.

In a 30-min. time span, I watched the coral periodically release additional clouds of eggs, each in lesser quantity. My Bangaiis are so stuffed with eggs they're going to explode. This is, by far, the coolest thing I've seen in my reef tanks.

wow very nice. Would be nice to document this. Have you noticed anything different with it in the past few days/week? Anything different in the tank in the past few weeks or a month. Do you only have one cynarina or multiples?

Only one cynarina. Nothing different in the tank. I did my weekly 20-gal. water change Saturday night and this morning added some Mg to get that level back up to where it should be. There has been nothing unusual for many weeks.

Was going to feed the Bangaii cardinals tonight, but they're going to be puking eggs pretty soon, so I won't waste the Rod's food.

It's interesting that the eggs did not cause a feeding response from the other corals.
