I’m needing a little help from the fishy masses for an ID on my newly aquired damselfish.

I’ve narrowed her down to either a Golden or Ternate but they are so similar I can’t quite figure it out. One thing to note, is when lights are off she gets vertical bars. I’ve taken a photo with flash that kind of shows them but not quite fantastically.

Size wise she’s about three inches minus the caudal. She’s very personable, but is definitely showing a mean streak. She will dart at me when I feed and I haven’t quite decided if it’s an “Oh food!” Rush or a “Stick the hands in and I’ll eat them!” Rush lol.

With flash in the morning. You can barely make out the slight color difference where her bars are.

I’ve noticed that some photos of Goldens and ternate don’t have so much yellow in the dorsal rays, and I haven’t found a barred photo of a ternate. But I don’t think she quite has the face iridescence of a golden. So I’m very confused on what she is and if I’d have to pass her along. Goldens get too big for my footprint if 24” cubed. And I’ve read they’re a bit more aggressive than a ternate.

So uh…. Help?

Live aquaria says 30 gallons is ok. She’s in 70, with like a 42 display. So I’m guessing it’ll be ok? I don’t want to rehome her lol. She’s such a fun little fish.
