Not interested in "letting you have it" about killing fish as I have killed 4 cardinals, 1 clown and one long nose hawkish. 2 were jumpers and the cardinals were just too small to keep up with the flow in my reef. Sometimes it's just not your fault and out of your hands. Sounds to me like you did all your homework. That's all you can do. Don't let your loss discourage you in the hobby. You will have set backs. There will be losses. Take them as learning experiences and evolve with the reefing hobby. Every reef expert started off as an amateur! Try again man. Go get yourself another fish. Reef on my brother!!!

Use ground ginger ! A lot of hobbyist don't no about it but it is a relatively new way of clearing ich or brook. It doesn't have a lot of science behind it but I have been using it and I believe it does work or at the very least helps out. Ginger is also used to treat parasites in humans intestinal tracts. Everytime I add livestock to my tank I sprinkle a little bit in the tank. Does not have any affect on corals or inverts. Since I have used it I have not seen ich or brook since. I had a clown that had gotten a little ich and sprinkled some ginger in and the next day the ich was gone off the fish and he survived. Could be coincidence but I think it does have some effect. Try it next time.

@melypr1985 thanks so much
As far as the fish in the QT - the LFS guy said we could get a "unimportant" fish like a damsel or whatever (no fish is "unimportant" but he meant not one we care about putting in DT) to keep in the QT when we are not using it for a QT. I think idea was to have that fish keeping the cycle going and when it came time to QT fish ultimately bound for DT, we would take damsel/whatever and pop it in the refug prior to putting new fish in QT. That was assuming the damsel had been living in QT for sometime and we were confident he was healthy. keep him in refug until we are done QTing new fish.
But this LFS guy is suggesting a QT time of much shorter than what I am hearing about here. .... like a week up to maybe 4 weeks. But if we keep them in QT as long as recommended here there won't be any time for a damsel to be in QT, we'll constantly have a fish waiting to go in DT or this will take us years to stock the tank! lol
thank you so much again
Carla

hard lesson to learn. most of us have been there. i wiped out my entire tank once due to not using QT. i had a breeding pair of clowns that i lost. you don't need to keep a fish in QT to keep the biological filter going. just keep a sponge filter, or what ever media you have for your QT filtration in your sump. then use it when necessary (throw it out if you use copper or any medication that you can't put in your tank and buy a new one when finished). once it's setup, you just cycle your new fish through and it will keep running. yes, it takes time to stock your tank but you will be far happier with the results.

your playing roulette with that method unless you have some sort of confirmed peer reviewed scientific study that confirms that. if your concerned with natural methods, try hypo to cure ich first.

sending out more thank yous!
Will look into the sponges and algae scrubbers but also considering a media reactor to run GFO and carbon .. figure we will want it eventually and easy to put in our big sump
thanks all! hugs etc.
btw ... remaining clown is lonely but feeling chipper. LFS also gave us some medicated food (eggs?) and he is eating much better now

Sweetie, this isn't a true method of curing any disease. If anything it does the same as garlic which only entices the fish to eat more food which can help boost their immune system and general health. What your experiencing is called "ick management". I guarantee ick is still in your tank and you will probably see signs of it again as soon as the heater breaks or the electricity goes out. I'm sorry, but I promise your clown would die of brook if all you did was sprinkle ginger in the tank.
