Over the last few weeks my sulphur goby had become much less enthusiastic and taken to hiding away in his cave only making a brief appearance when food was added but going after it with much less gusto than I would usually expect. There was no wait loss that was noticeable but there was a definite change in habits.
Last night I fed the tank to see if the little guy would make his entrance but no sign I tried to see behind his rock and could just make out his tail but there was no movement at this point I assumed the worst and started making efforts to recover the body it was a difficult extraction but after jostling the rock and trying to manoeuvre with a rod and a little cursing I got it out by the looks of the body it had been dead no longer than 24hrs and was mostly intact. This lead me to thinking how long do we expect these gobies to live This fish was wild caught, fully grown when I got it and I have had it about 4.5yrs so it’s safe to assume it’s at least 6yrs old give or take maybe older. After a quick google all I found was life expectancy as 5+ yrs so I would like to know anyone out there with a goby like mine or the yellow watchman goby how long did yours live
So I can get a better understanding of real life expectancies for this fish thanks
Ps rip mr grumpy chops
