Deer Hunters.

OK it's that time of year. I know lots of hunters are using scouting camera's in the field to see whats out there. I just picked one up this year to put out in Canada next week. Been putting it out by the area I bowhunt in Wisconsin and so far it looks promising. We are in an earn a buck area and I just got my doe tag out of the way yesterday. Now I get to hunt for this.

Love the camera. Looks like I have another smaller 8 and some other bucks roaming the property. Rubs and scrapes are showing up.

Time to get geared up and excited. Driving twelve hours next week just to set up my stands and put the camera out in Canada. Hopefully I see some real nice bucks on film. Anybody else got any monsters on film? Live or harvested I would love to see em. Maybe some of you guys/gals in the south with those monster racks. Come on Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota(real monsters I plan to hunt here some day). Hunting like reefing at times gets a bad rap but it is the best tool for population control. I just want to see how many people on here do both. We all love pictures. Lets see em.

This was I think the biggest buck shot in Ontario last year. I believe it was over 200 inches. This is the largest buck I ever put my hands on and was shot about an hour and a half from where I hunt. I am the fat guy in the black jacket.

Also was told that a new world record buck is walking around southwest wisconsin right now. Still alive. I heard the Wisconsin DNR has four wardens monitoring the area full time to make sure it doesn't get poached. If it gets shot legally the person that shoots it will be an instant millionaire.

That's a MONSTER!!!!

Last year Kentucky had a bad outbreak of "blue tounge". It's some type of disease that the deer pick up when there's a bad drought or something like that. They pick up a parasite that's in the water/mud and it slowly kills them. Don't quote me on that. Anyways, we are still seeing some of the side effects. I work at the Cincinnati/NKY airport. We have around 8,000 acres that we can deer hunt with bow or shotgun. We have been doing some bushhogging and have discovered over 18 deer dead this week. Most were found by a water source. My point was that we found a easy 160 class buck still in velvet dead. It was a huge 12 pointer. Some samples were taken from the deer we found and it was determined that it was still the disease. The kick in the bag is that one of our tractors ran over the rack, busting it into several pieces. It would've made a wicked European mount.

I have not seen any huge bucks here, there's alot of pressure on them. I can only hope the farm near the KY Speedway is full of them.

I went out last night and the bucks are just starting in pre-rut. Last night was one of the most active nights I have ever seen. 3 small bucks came out into about a 70 acre field, they were all running together. Over about 2 hours that I was able to see them they were sparring and toward the end they became more aggressive. Then right before dark another large buck pushed out 4 doe and was running them hard. It ran off the other small bucks. I never got a good look at his rack being that it was fairly dark at that time.
So far I have not seen a ton of scraps. But, I think they will be in full rut in this area (Ohio) in about a week or so. But, I will be out this evening and all this weekend.
I took pictures from the stand last night and will post them once I have uploading them.

Wisconsin is dealing with chronic wasting disease. Thankfullyit isn't anywhere I hunt but it is a slow death for the deer as well.

Sucks the rack got run over. I will be doing a skull mount on any smaller bucks I shoot from now on. I really like how they look and I only have room for about three shoulder mounts.

I didnt know that it was that bad down there! I have not found any deer in this area that look bad. But, it is near Ceasars Creek therefore they had plenty of water over the summer.

Yeah that big canadian whitetail had three main beams. If you look close you can see all kinds of stuff growing out of its skull. The one eye was almost forced closed by that growth. Ugly but beautiful at the same time.

I believe it made one of the monster bucks of the year? I think I saw it in one of the magazines. Would love to have that beauty over the fire place!

Deer

I took this one two years ago in Kansas. I shot it in early bow season. When I took the shot it was nearly dark. So, I did not look for the deer until the following day, thats why I am wearing shorts. It was about 60 yards from where I took the shot.

No doubt about that one. Shooter all the way. Kansas has some big racked deer. I have friends that go to Missouri every year and they always come back with nice bucks too. SOme day I hope to hunt all the big deer states.

West Kansas has the monster bucks. I have never hunted west Kansas but hope to some day. Looks like you have some nice bucks up your way! My goal is a drop tine buck.

OH someday. I use to hunt 30 minutes from the UP. It brings back memories of one of the few times I truly got buck fever. We were on a deer drive and i was posted on the back side of the drive. I had figured the drive was just about over and I was getting cold so I eyeballed a stump about a 100 yards away and decided the walk would get my blood flowing. It was probably fifteen degrees. We don't ya know it I get to the stump put my foot up on it and hear crashing behind me. This monster buck and another nice eight pointer came crashing out the backside of the drive and dont they run right to the crotch of the tree i was hiding behind. The first buck was so big(easily 300 pounds) that the eight pointer behind it looked like a fawn. I took my time and squeezed off a round. 100% sure I downed the big one. I focused on the eight pointer. Squeezed one off and was sure that was a dead deer as well. Wouldnt you know it neither stopped so I snapped one more shot at each of them and reloaded. They were over the next ridge and out of sight. I went to where I shot and not a single sign of a hit. Found a couple trees with bullet holes in them and was just sick. As close as I ever came to a booner. So I start walking back and look. Right up the hill these two bucks come running right past me again. Heading straight for the swamp they came out of. Four more shots and four more dead trees. By then the fever was in full swing and I was reloading. When I chambered the next round I put the bullet right into the ground(like I said not proud of it, the fever had me). Three more shots and no sign of a hit but I did calm down and was selective with my shots. But they were headed right back to my hunting group. The big buck stopped in the middle of the logging road and gave my uncle a fifty yard standing broadside shot. But my truck was another 100 yards past him so he didn't shoot and the buck was gone. When we gathered we started looking for blood since I never miss(darn fever). We found blood but it was very faint. We all decided to come back and look the next morning. But we got snow over night. When we went back there was no sign of blood anymore but there was a set of human footprints that followed the trail of blood. I was sick. Somebody else got the buck and I never found out who.

They say you only get one opportunity at a monster and I had blown it. Hopefully I have grown as a hunter from that experience. I control myself a lot better and it's been over ten years since the incident. I realize I may never get the opportunity at a huge buck again but I sure am gonna keep trying.

That is a huge buck for the UP. But then again some deer up there live a full life without ever seeing a hunter. One of the guys I hunt with found a shed up in Canada right across the river from where I hunt that was just a tad smaller than that one. It was all chewed up so we think it was from two seasons ago. But they are big up there so there is always hope.

We drive through Minnesota to get to Canada every year. And every year we come back through during your gun season. Every year we say we are gonna hunt it for three or four days and we never do. Last year I almost smoked a nice 10 pointer with my truck on the way up. I think we counted 147 deer in a 110 mile stretch of the road. And I am talking right on the edge of the road. When I bought my truck I put a monster brush guard on it just for that reason. It is amazing how amny deer we see when we drive through.

I past up a 9 point for some reason last Mon and now I'm kick myself. I hope that he back tonight when i go out. Also seen 2 smaller buck after he came in. Signs are good all around me so I think he'll be back. Last year I took a nice 12 point so, I was so hoping for something big, but aren't we all.

I shot my first big buck tonight from the ground with my bow, called him in with a trophy buck grunter. I tracked him for about a quarter mile and found half my arrow, blood went on for some ways after that before thinning out in such a thick area that is was almost impossible for me to go on in the dark. im heading out in the am to search and i hope i have some pics of him when i get home.

Anyone else having any luck? Its primetime here in il for sure.
