Can u give more info on the eheim mod? I have a reactor with a bad aquabee and would be interested in doing this mod. Thanks. Sorry to be OT.

Great write-up, and the only difference with mine is that I used flexible tubing for the recirc...so I'll just quote him.

After countless problems with the Aquabee 3000 that came with my Deltec Calcium Reactor, I decided it was time to look into modifying it with an Eheim 1260. Since that time(about 1 year ago) I have had zero pump issues..."

"Here is my attempt to explain what I did. You can modify it to your specific needs. My reactor is teed off a return, so there is no dedicated feed pump.


First off, here is a list of supplies. The # in parenthesis is the # of pieces you'll need.

-1 Eheim 1260 submersible pump

-JB weld

-About an 18" or so length of pvc pipe

-(2) 1/2" threaded(both ends) couplings

-(1) 1/2" ball valve or true union

-(2) 1/2" unions

-(1) 3/4" male threaded x 1/2" female slip coupling

-(1) 1/2" male threaded x 1/2" female slip coupling

-(1) 1/2 tee

-(1) 1/2" female slip x 1/8" John Guest Fitting connector

-(2) 1/2" male threaded x 1/2" female slip elbows

-(1) 3/4" male threaded x 1/2" female slip connector

First, prepare the pump. Make sure to wrap the threads that will go into the pump with probably twice as much or more of teflon tape that you would normally use for any other connection. The pieces will fit very snug when you have enough. I was wary about this at first, just as you probably are, but I haven't had a single drop of water or any salt creep at all come out of these connections in at least 1 year. I've taken it apart for cleaning and just added a couple more wraps of tape, and it has worked perfectly. Any way, onto preparing the pump. I took the 3/4" male threaded(wrap it with extra teflon tape) x 1/2" female slip connector and screwed it into the female out put of the pump. Next, take one of the 3/4" male threaded(again, extra tape) x 1/2" female slip coupling and screw it into the input of the pump. Refer to pic # 1.

On to the reactor now. First, you have to cut that point of sale Aquabee off. Cut the clear piping going in and out of the top of the reactor, leaving enough to make a connection(probably 1" or so will do). Refer to pic # 2 for where exactly I cut them.I used a dremel with the diamond bit. I REALLY didn't want to break these. It will ruin your day if you do. Next, take the 1/2" threaded(both ends) couplings and file the inside threads on one side of each so it will slip onto the clear pipes you just cut. You can probably use a sanding bit on a dremel for this. You don't have to remove much material. It will be a bit wobbly, but this is the best fit I could come up with after trying many different sizes with slip and threaded ends. Use the JB Weld to secure these to the clear pipes that you cut leaving the other threaded ends untouched. It will take a few minutes to set up. I actually left them to dry overnight before proceeding to make good and sure the weld was cured. Now, make the connection to the input of the pump.(left side of pic) Take the 1/2" male threaded x 1/2" female slip coupling, (normal amount of teflon tape on the threaded end) and screw it into the coupling coming off the reactor. Add a small piece of 1/2" pvc (you decide how long )to the slip end, add the tee, another piece of 1/2" pvc, the 1/2" union, and another small piece of 1/2" pvc long enough to reach the pump. Add the 1/2" female slip x 1/8" John Guest Fitting connector to the tee. (This may be different in your case. I have ro tubing coming off a return feeding my reactor.) On to the output side.(right side in the pic.) Using a normal amount of teflon tape, screw the male end of one of the 1/2" male threaded x 1/2" female slip elbows into the other connector coming out of the reactor. Add a length of pvc(again, you determine the length. Also, ignore the connector you see in the pic at this point. I had to make a slight adjustment to mine), add ball valve, another length of pvc, the union, and another small length of pvc to the slip connection on the connector on the pump..."
