Well I'm only 17 so I was curious where to move. In pa we don't have a lot of reefers so I know florida gets coral trade so I was curious if a town near you had a lot of reefers without a shop...

You would get slammed by the "bigger" name stores in Florida IMO. Why not just start online business? Hope you have a large piggy bank

youre 17, and plan on openig a coral shop?! hope you have a very large start up fund. but honestly, i think if you were trying to start a shop, itd be best to possibly move to florida to work in some shops and gain knowledge/experience/connections and then move to a place where you can have a niche/place in the market.

I don't think you have thought this through . It Is expensive to start a business rent gas electric water and all the tanks, fish, coral ,all the staff you probably need a least 100,000.00 to start

I know I'm going to college for a MBA I want to know where demand is so when I get out I don't have to down moving money. My business won't be up probably for another 7 years I'm just saying. And you can make a frag business in your basement. I buy from slippery rock corals and he does it below his house and it is a public store check out their site it sweet.

Many people have shops in sheds/garage/basement Yes 10times easier because they aren't putting out the overhead money. Whos paying for college? Thats going to be a nice payment also. Not saying starting your own store "wont" happen and i'm not here to shoot down any dreams at all. I'm just saying that its going to have a nice price tag and you need as much knowledge as possible or you money is going to end up in the sewer. In the end if you push yourself you can make anything happen so I wish you the best of luck.

It's nice to see someone looking ahead and trying to plan. I support you all the way. My only thoughts on downsides this early in your plan of action is demographics and economy. A lot can AND will change in 7 years. As posted above, the bigger name stores have it made. Also the startup costs are crazy. I think 7-8 years from now $100,000 won't be enough. An internet based business sounds most feasible in the end and eliminates the need to research the demographic side of the equation. Also still gives you the ability to live at home with mom and dad, get excellent meals, and not drop tons of quarters in washing machines.

This is mostly what I was thinking. In 7 years there might be 10 new saltwater stores where you wanted to put yours. Florida is a great place to live but I'm sure its double the living cost of where you live now.

In Florida you will have numerous customers. We have a lot of reefers in this state. Though we do have a fair share of stores as well. From high end corals to bread butters stores. I just moved from downtown Orlando where I could hop in my car and be at a professional reef shop within 15-20 minutes in any direction. So these stores get shipments in at a min of once a week. People do line up on shipment day waiting to see what's new. I have met store owners outside the state and they may get a shipment once a month because the customer base just isn't there. Lot think about my friend.
