Hi all,
So I understand that leather finger corals will propagate by dropping their fingers.

Mine is almost done shedding his 2nd finger in the last roughly 2 months and a third is starting to detach.

Now I'm starting to wonder if it might be because he's unhappy.

He opens plenty, all his polyps are out. The first dropping appears to be turning from white to he corals color, and polyps are coming out and it looks like a baby finger is forming.

So, I have no reason to believe anything is wrong other than the frequency of the finger droppings.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thx!
Jay

I've never had one drop that much, but I've only ever had one. Sounds like it's fine, but is it making a slime coat? Mine would seem to make a heavy coat of slime and shrink down some if it were unhappy. Got pics?

No slime coat at all. It looks great, just keeps dropping fingers. :-) Though the fingers themselves are a little unsightly. I'll take a pic of it when I get home and post it.

It's the only one I've ever had to, so just looking for other people's experiences. Thx for sharing!

Here's the coral. You can see the finger at the bottom is nearly separated. The middle finger at the top which is flopped to the right has a tear at the base on the bottom right that you can't see.

But otherwise it looks fine, no?

Mine drops fingers all the time. I've gotten maybe 7-8 in the last 7 months. I just give away the ones I can get out.

I'm up to 5 dropped fingers in the last month. Glad I read this thought there might have been a problem.Anybody want some?

I do! I have been looking for a devil's hand, cant afford 50 bucks to ship. There is a toadstool at petco that is scollpy looking so I thought it might be one but not sure

Mine is doing the same exact thing. Not sure if dropping so many fingers all the time is normal. Or if it has something to do with my pentameters.

Mine has never dropped a finger. Ive had it about a year now. Its growing just never dropped anything.

This is constant. It’s always shedding fingers and growing new ones.
