Hello everyone! I've been lurking in the shadows getting ideas for quite some time. A few people have suggested I start a build thread. This is my first saltwater aquarium and I will warn you that this wont be a speedy build haha. I kept various cichlids for about 8 years in a 6' 125 gallon aqueon tank and decided to make the switch to the dark side.
I recently received my Planet Aquariums tank. Dimensions are 72.5 x 30.5 x 25. My plans are for a mixed reef.
Other than tank, stand, and a brand new BRS 7 stage rodi, I need just about everything else. I have 2 40gal breeders, 2 10gals, and 2 5gals, that will be used for hospital/quarantine tanks. For water storage I have 2 55 gallon blue poly drums but will upgrade to vertical storage tanks at some point.

Thank you! I'm very excited to get this tank going. I will be taking my time with it to minimize any mistakes. Full quarantine for everything entering the tank.
I'm considering a Precision Marine R48 Pro Plus for the sump. Any recommendations welcomed! The overflow is a 16" Tideline "ghost".

Brs 7 stage rodi just showed up! Should have it installed in the next week or so.
I suppose it's time to start cleaning the pukani I bought. Going to try the bleach method to knock down any dead organics.

Can't decide on a sump. I'm looking at the Synergy CL-44 or Precision Marine R48-Pro Plus. According to my calculations, both should handle my system and any drainage from a power outage.
Any recommendations sump wise?

So, it has been quite a long time but I'm finally making progress. We had to put the tank on hold with welcoming our daughter to this world.
But here we go!

Custom Modular Marine overflow. My tank was supplied with a tideline overflow but I wasn't too crazy out it. I contacted MM and they custom made an overflow to fit perfectly.

Painted the canopy to match the stand.
Ran 1" 80/20 profile for adjustable lighting. I used 1/4" x 1" aluminum flat bar. Everything was overkill but I work with aluminum at work and get it cheap.
I have 4 of the kessils mounted so far. I'll be mounting the other 2 today. At some point next week, I'll be mounting my 4 bulb 60" t5 retro kit as well.
Still need to figure out some type of cable management in the canopy.

I ended up purchasing a synergy CL-44 as well.
Thanks to the BRS black Friday sale, I ordered all of the plumbing and accessories needed to finish the tank.

That's gonna be some solid lighting! Can you get those aluminum bars at a home depot? I'm going T5s/a360xs too on my 230g build and really like your setup.

I ordered the black 80/20 profileand hardware at tnutz.com. They have pretty good prices at the time I purchased.
I got the 1/4" flat bar from work but home depot may have some. Itll probably be 1/8" but that'll be sufficient. If you wanted anything thicker, I'd check a local metal supplier or onlinemetals.com. Just make sure you don't go wider than 1" on the flat bar for the kessils. I bought 1 1/2" x 1/4" flatbar for the t5 mounting

Great thanks for the info. Following along on your build.

Got the rest of the kessils mounted and took them for a test drive. I have a bunch of cable management to sort through. I ordered new usb c cables. The factory k link cables are insanely long. I still need to install the four t5 bulbs, but that'll be for another day.

Are you suspending the canopy from the ceiling or from an 80/20 bar from the side of the tank?
