I need some help identifying this brown algae growing all over my sand and rocks. The tank is a 60 gallon cube with a 15 gallon sump. The tank as been up since early April, I had a diatom outbreak in May/June followed by some green hair algae but it cleared up and then about 3 weeks ago this stuff came back with a vengeance. It comes really easy i can stir the sand clean off the rocks and in a matter of hours it back again.

I have a mini brs reactor that runs carbon with a little GFO mixed in.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Looks a lot like cyanobacteria to me; if so you can siphon it out. For a permanent solution check and reset your water parameters if necessary.

you really think it cyano, even though its a rusty brown color?

Thanks guys

I just vacuumed the sand and did a 6 gallon water change.
