I think these are Dinoflagellate Amphidinium that have decided to blanket my sand bed. Is that correct, and if so, what’s the best way to deal with them? My numbers are pretty good: ammonia near 0 or 0, nitrates 5-10, phosphates .02-.08, alk 8.5-8.7, ca 430-450, mg 1300-1330. Ph 7.9-8.2, sg 1.025, temp 77.4. The tank is 8 months old and has been through diatom, hair algae and cyano phases. I have added gulf reef rubble and AF Life source to the sump and have a thriving copepod population. Lights on 8 hours a day. I have read that adding silicates in order to foster competition for resources from diatoms is a good strategy. Is this true? Other suggestions?
