let the water stay steady for a 10 minutes or more and you will see brown group, string of dinos in the water column like those

And change a shape on your corals from strings with high flow

To just a brown mass when the water is steady

Those pictures are from my ostreopsis ovata. Im so happy I cant see them anymore :)

That's so awesome. I saw pics like these of a brown ascending dino cloud when flow was cut off, but no one had species ID to it. Thank you!

Dinos don't just leave enter the water column leaving sand clean. They enter water column leaving the sand brown!

True - it's not 100% in or out, but dino sand is usually lighter at lights on than in afternoon.

pic is almost certainly dinos. your description really doesn't sound like dinos. :)
Could you post a vid through the scope?
Maybe you have dinos + something else. It's surprisingly common.

I'll see what I can do. They were moving some. The brown oval things are also the only thing I saw in the scope. When my daughter comes back I'll have her bring the scope.

Do we know anything at all about dino-x, other than it smells bad? Contents, mechanism, targets? Most reviews I've heard are bad, but a few good ones is still worth looking into.
Link appreciated.

What do you mean by "smells bad"?
I have a bottle and it doesn't smell whatsoever. Certainly not ammonia or anything strong like that.

I'm in the UK, not sure if the contents are the same worldwide.

As reported by many reefers, including myself, the tank smells bad after treating with Dino-X

Interesting. I wonder if they've changed ingredients at some point.

I used Dino X successfully for one type of dinos (mainly on the rocks), but it's failed on the second lot I have (mainly on the sand). Or maybe it depends on the type of dino you have.

There was no detectable smell.

The product itself smells of nothing much. However the ammonium and toxidity as part of the nitrogen cycle and effects on system do produce a pungent smell.

Yeah, I used it twice and didn't do much for my dinos (mostly in the sand). It did a good job attacking algae though. The smell probably comes as an effect of the resulting dead matter in the tank. I would gladly take the smell if it kills my dreaded dinos - LOL

Good report. Sounding like sand bed dinos (presumably amphidinium) seem hard to get at with chemical attacks.

Yes, you (I think) identified the second lot as amph on another forum based on my fairly mediocre microscope video.

This avi to gif conversion seems to have sped them up; They are not moving this fast, but still are moving. Not all though, most are stationary? Thoughts?

This is pretty much exactly what mine looked like. My pic wasn't as good. Movement was very similar as well

If some company figures out a way to kill all forms of dinos without having to nuke your tank, they're going to make a lot of money.
