So I sucked up some brown stuff off the sand into a bottle. Shook like mad. Then went to filter it through the filter and into a cup.. The water barely passed through the filter. Should I use paper towel instead?

The idea of the coffee filter is that it will only allow the smallest of things through. If you use something bigger, then diatoms, etc... we'll get through as well. You want only the dinos to see if they re-clump together.

A cheap microscope is the way to go!
