I invested in a Neptune Systems PM3/dissolved oxygen probe. I love data and oxygen is of course super critical to respiration in fish/inverts (corals).
My average dissolved oxygen is 87.5%, minimum is 85%, and maximum is 91%. I'd like to get closer to saturation (100%) for longer (both day and night)
Randy Holmes-Farley, are those values 'good' ? Should I be optimizing for higher dissolved O2 levels or am I good and I should leave well enough alone?
How do these DO values compare with others?
I do run chaetomorpha in the sump with lighting at night but not consistently yet. I tried chaeto when the tank was brand new and it slowly wasted away. I tried sea lettuce (ulva lactuca) and it floats and reduces flow through my sump so had to go. I tried Ogo/Gracilaria Parvisipora and my mexican turbo snails in the sump devoured it within days (maybe they will be relocated to the display). I'm back to chaeto with an older (~6mo) tank and plan on rinsing it once every week to remove bio film. Hopefully it'll thrive now.
Any data/anecdotal info welcome!
