DIY - Coast to Coast Overflow...

Being in NZ - we have limited access to some products like overflow boxes as they are not shipped to our location.
So what does one do, make one.

I have access to a cardboard CNC cutter so I have cut out what I propose.... yes looks familiar but made to suit my tank.
36 (900) x 24 (600) x 24 (600) - 85G.

The internal box - looks huge inside the tank.
Would you go with this or make something smaller?

It is made with 4mm cardboard but I will using 6mm Acrylic so there will be no overlap as there is with the cardboard.

My guess is the bulkheads need to be trimmed shorter.

Next up is getting the acrylic cut and working out how to glue them together....
Any advice?

Looks like a nice design. It will look much smaller if made out of black acrylic to match the black back of your tank. Keep in mind you will not be able to change the bulkhead once it is built. You may also have a hard time holding them to tighten them up. I would use 3 gaskets per bulkhead. On against the flang inside the overflow. One between the overflow and the inside of the tank and one outside the tank between the tank and external box. I would shorten them once you allow for 3 gaskets and the acrylic thickness.
If you made it out of glass, you could make both boxes 3 sided and silicone them on making everything more compact. No need for bulkheads going through the tank at all. No need for slots just have the weir go over the full with of the overflow.

Looks good mate, I done mine in glass and it sucks, too much shadowing at the back. I've designed one to be laser cut in acrylic though not got round to it yet, plus the tanks been running for 2.5 years now.
