Hello Reefers, I was getting tired of changing filter socks and I had custom filter sock holder that I had made which was built nice but I blow my rocks every week to move the detritus off the rocks so that I have crystal clear water when I done remove all the detritus this caused another issue that would clog my filter socks very quickly and this was done every Saturday and I did not have time to change and wash the filter socks and I would just replace them and by next Saturday I would be left with multiple dirty filter socks to be washed, I knew that I could buy roller mat filter that are plenty for sale in the market and those roller mat filters are for fancy sumps and can not handle amount of water that my system turns over, so I decided to build my own roller mat filter that was big enough to hand water turn over and I wanted 95% of my water to go though roller mat. So I started buying parts that I would need to put this together, I bought roller mat from ebay which is 10" and it is 40 micron roller which comes in 100 yards, I bought 12v high torque motor which is 5 rpm motor and power supply from Amazon, bought plastic storage bin which is not as thicker material as I wanted but this will have to do for now, size of the bin is 12" wide x 20 inches long x 4" high, I drilled multiple holes for the water to drain under into the sump and I mounted some pvc board on the sides to be able to mount holders for pvc which is holding roller mat and other end pvc pipe is connected to motor to roll on dirty paper mat, there is float switch mounted with magnet holder. It is controlled via apex and if filter swich is in open position then motor turns on and turns off when water level drops, here are the pictures and video of the this unit in action
