Materials needed:
•12”X12” 1/8” Thick or 1/4”thick plexiglass
• One tube of aquarium safe silicone
•glass aquarium
Step one:
Caution be sure to leave protective layer over plexiglass to prevent scratches: mark on the plexiglass 2” over then 2 1/2” over and cut on the line.
Step two:
Cut lines at the top for the over flow 3/4” down from the top. Make a cut every 1/4” or so, doesn’t need to be perfect.
Step three:
cut to fit aquarium. For example I have a 10 gallon aquarium and I had to cut my plexiglass to 11 1/2 inches tall.
Step four:
Place the larger piece of plexiglass where you want it and silicone it in place. I placed mine 2 inches from the corner.
Step five:
Silicone the Second piece of plexiglass to the first piece of plexiglass and make sure there are no openings for water to break the seal.
Step six:
Let dry and then clean up any unwanted silicone showing.
Step seven:
install!!!!
Once the water is at the level when the over flow starts make sure to have an ATO so when the water evaporates it doesn’t make the filter run dry. Let me know what you all think of my DIY overflow and let me know how it works out for you. All in all this cost $10-$12 everything can be found on amazon. Some Of you maybe even have all this laying around your house already. Thanks for reading!
