my lights been over my new tank since sunday. so far so good. most corals are doing great. couple are still grumpy from the change. one thing i'm noticing though and not sure if light related or not, but I had a few zoas I fraged 6+ months ago, that never died but never really fully opened up again after I fraged them. they are fully open today for the first time. so not sure if its something they like better with the new light spectrum wise, maybe there just getting more par? I dunno my old lights were prolly better quality spec wise (blue acro half mega pro pucs) but this light is more the kitchen sink method of hitting the spectrum (10 different LED colors in total in the light vs 5 in the blue acro)

yes I like the 16x luxeon chip, prolly the best "bang for buck" chip avail for royal blue they are a surplus part from I beleave a DLP projector i've heard. I run them at 600, which is enough for what I need. i've run them at 1amp before it was fine but they did get quite warm at full

When building a fixture is it better to blow the fan on the heat sink or pull the heat from it

push or pull fans are not so much different in effectivity.
the air pressure of your fan & directing the air threw your heat-sink-fins, is more relevant

i want to go with pull, just hoping to get a little bit less dust.
blocking the fins to the top beside the fan (with alu or copper same material as heat-sink)& forcing the air to come from left & right sides over the whole heat-sink-fins...

I run 3 of those luxeon k16's over my 40" tank, I believe the price now is $15 for 5, I don't think you can beat that for price, I run mine at 700ma and at 2500 on the 12 bit pwm, coupled with a DIY version of the storm X controller, came in less than $400 for my build (I don't live in the US, so approx cost after exchange rate) a pair of radeons would have cost more than double.

If I do be I DIY build again it would probably cost less due to all the bits I've wasted or changed and probably wouldn't build pendants due to all the extra wiring and headaches it gave me...

so what's better this build or doing the arcoblue
personal preference I have both. I think the blueacro leds are better quality substantially. that said to get the power i'm putting down in my tank now i'd need 3 acrostar pros and that would of set me back 270 vs the 80 in leds I spent on the chinese pucs plus the mints and k16 blue i added. if money was no object yeah I'd go with blueacro and see if he would tweak the led layout a smidge for my tastes or go with nanobox led pucs, but i'm cheap and like to tinker so I went cheap.

so what's better this build or doing the arcoblue

arcoblue uses mutch better LED´s of corse they cost a bit more & produces in USA(price USA vs China), but you have not so many options to play around with your color setup or channels...
his new products (drivers & led on board) look small, clean & nice if he would let me choose my channels & colors he would be the best!!!
LEDBrick - DIY LED Pendant with Pucks

i want to buy theatrus(arcoblue maker) reefpi board easy & clean i just have to wait for full version (hope he sends to europe)

Europe and customized channel loadouts aren’t a problem :)

when your reefpi board full version will be ready/avalible?:D
LiquidSoftIvorybackedwoodswallow-size_restricted.gif
;):)
i am thinking of starting with pi zero w & PCA9685 for lighting/dimming only (just droped my plans to start with tc421 because of your thread )
and adding your board for full funktion...

i think i will start with cheap chiniese but will be goning to expand/change them...
my lighting plans are 4 my first tank so i got to buy a lot 2k€+(without lifestock) & another real cool open source 3d projekt 1k€+ (http://vorondesign.com/voron2.1)
so it might take some time planing (allready over 1month & still changing...;Sour), buildung & playing around, but i will be coming back to your custom offer :)

do you got mint (C, CZ or any) led´s on your new boards?(or old)
what will be ~ the cost of a custom 2 channel 8 led board with shipping to europe?(or 4 channel)

Its more a matter of docs, case, and more community validation things are working as expected. So far no major revisions are planned.

Pretty foolproof setup honestly.

I have 5 main variants of board (with the worst naming scheme in history)

AcroStar 1/2 Mega: 8x Luxeon Z, 2 channels.
AcroStar Mega4Z: 16x Luxeon Z, 4 channels.
AcroStar 1/2 MegaC: 8x Luxeon C, 2 channels, 2 positions (1 per channel) can take a 3535. Has a curious cutout shape designed to allow air to pass through 2" round heatsinks. Not on the website.
AcroStrip C: 6x Luxeon C or 3535 LED, in a narrow strip. 2 channels (some positions take either a C or 3535). No longer on the website, limited stock of the blanks.
AcroStar Gleam: 16 LED board I was experimenting with in the thread, 3 channels of Luxeon C and 1 of 3535. Larger reflector than any of the other AcroStars (Ledil Angela vs Ledil Brooke).

All of the C positions can take Mint. Pricing varies based on LEDs but I don't upcharge for custom (just may take me longer to ship). DM me for a layout price.

Do you have the 36v or 56v LDD modules? That would be LDD-L or LDD-H respectively. Then what voltage is your power supply.

Your setup looks pretty good, but the Blueacro are really nice for sure.

honetly not a ton you would need to change. only thing I would do is more Royal blue, and less warm white. and maybe ad a few mints.

Mine is 3 lddh 1000ma and 3 lddh 700ma but I have and extra 1000ma to swap. my power supply I'd have to replace. The biggest reasons I've thought about the swap is the tightness of the leds for blending and being able to put a wide angle lense/diffuser on it.
Plus I've seen so many good reviews on them.

If I do end up staying with this setup if I swapped out some warm whites for cool whites would that be ok... also would swapping my old leds for something in the 90+ cri add any benefit over 80 cri. For the mints would you swap the cyan or leave the cyan and just add mints
