Hi, do you guys think this seam will give out and needs to be rebuilt/ replaced or am I good to keep it like this. Check the picture with the red circle. Also do you think I need to reseal the tank or am I still good and this is mostly cosmetic. The tank was bought used and has been running for 4 months with no issues (knock on wood) I am thinking of turning it into a peninsula but wanted to know if it’s even worth doing that with this or does it need major work and replacement?

This tank looks like it’s been “resealed” before!

The actual glass:glass structural silicone seam looks intact!

Just the cosmetic silicone on the interior of the tank from the “reseal” work is damaged, at least from what I can see!
Thank you for the reply. So you think I don’t need to repair this seam?

In this light, that looks significantly worse!

I’m having trouble figuring out where the cosmetic silicone ends, and the glass joint begins in this photo… could you try getting one or two more from slightly different angles?

The video is excellent! Though, it shows this seam from the side, vs. through the glass!

Can we get one that views from this angle: (through the long viewing pane, at the seam!)

And possibly also from this angle? (Through the side pane, viewing the same seam at an angle through the side pane):

(Yes, I know this seam is peeling; you can actually only see that happening when viewing the seam at an angle through the side pane, in this particular example!)

It seems like only this corner but on top where the rim is has a slight lip as well not sure if that’s normal.

This is very unusual! I’ve never seen a silicone seam that looked quite like this one before!

My immediate thought would be scraper damage/kids in the house, but the pattern almost looks like it’s from insufficient application of silicone, and not getting enough “squish” from the silicone during tank assembly!

The glass overhang/lip at the top is a bit odd, too… almost like someone has rebuilt this tank without a jig… the overhang itself is purely cosmetic, mind you!

— I’m leaning towards assembly error causing this, but am not 100% sure of either that, or how it could be most appropriately repaired, short of adding glass to the tank or rebuilding the tank…

@Joe Glass Cages , would you be willing to weigh in with your expert opinion here? (When you find the time, of course!)
