I'm curious how many folks dose strontium, and what your experiences have been with it (or not).

I know this poll may have limited utility because many folks these days use mixtures of supplements that may have some things you want and some things you think are a waste (its true of me with AFR), but I'm especially interested in a self assessment of hard coral health from folks who do not now dose, or who used to not dose it and now do, etc.

I don't want to make this thread about my opinion on strontium, as opposed to actual reef experiences dosing it or not.

Thanks in advance and Happy Reefing!

I dosed it based on my icp results in my old 120.
I kept levels at 7-10.

I set up dosing the same way on my current 150 but did not run an icp for a year.
This was pretty dumb and I should know better, lol.
After 1 year the icp came back with Strontium level of 26.
Stopped dosing and next icp it was down to 14. Next icp should bring it in range.

Visually saw no difference dosing it and don't plan on it in the future.

Note all systems were acro dominant.

So I have a bottle of Sr from my early days.

I must have used it at some point, since the bottle is still mostly full I must have decided that there’s no observed benefit.

Generally my Sr is on target and I use AFR so that may explain why the leaves are ok.

I dose this weekly just based of advice from Triton ICP.

Has it made any visible difference - no way to really clarify as there are quite a number of things I do dose!

Thank you for the info. :)

I dose it as part of my correction dosing per the RM method. Usually correction doses only for several days after ICP results come in, not a daily addition as other elements are.

I cannot comment on experiences and whether or not i see an effect specific to Strontium dosing or not, like I would with say, Boron, where I tend to see an improvement in red coloration on SPS within days of Boron additions.

I dose 1ppm/month on an Acropora heavy system. If I don’t ICP comes in at 5-6ppm.

It is in the trace element cocktail that I add to my 2 part. I don’t know the level in my tank as I’m not concerned with it

Thanks. It is expected to decline if not dosed in any system where calcium carbonate is deposited as it gets incorporated into the solid in place of calcium. :)

I do a daily dose of around 8 ml (corresponding to around 0.25 mg/L and day consumption) I did a daily dose corresponding to 0.33 mg/L and day for a long period before.

The solution I use rise 100 L with 0,1 mg/L per ml. I have a 300 L aquarium - 10 ml will therefore rise the concentration with around 0.33 mg/L. Below is a graph showing measurements and daily dose from 5 days after the measurement before to the day for the sample. Its calculated in mg/L Sr and the Volume is 300L.

Daily dose now 0.27 mg/L. seen these figures - I´m going to lower it to 0.2 mg/L😃

I´m aware that this is not the whole truth because during this time hard corals and clams has going mostly out - very few in.

Sincerely Lasse

I dose 5 ml of Reef Complete twice daily. Mainly because it contains magnesium and strontium. I don’t know what level of strontium my reef has in it, but I figure it’s at least bio available this way. No idea if it’s helping, but all my corals look good so it’s not hurting.

I can say though that since focussing on the small dosing with the Triton ICP, my colours have been better.
What is “small dosing”?

I mean the weekly dosing of only 5-10ml of elements like strontium, iodine, manganese, potassium, zinc and others.

But it could also just be in my head 😂.

I dose it as it’s in TM elements K+. I use Randy’s improved 2 part, mix 20L of Ca & Alk at a time, add 1000ml bottles of K+ & A- to respective containers. ICP usually comes back with TE’s a little on the low side, but I’d rather under than over dose…
