Marvel at the exquisitely delicate and beautiful undertaking that is reefkeeping?

Thus is our affliction...shunned by some and misunderstood by the rest spare a few sympathetic souls with the same appreciation for natural splendor and wonder at its best!

Share some pics that make you stop and take notice!

All. The. Time!! It’s how I start and end my day. I’ll often focus on one small area of the tank and watch all the little critters scurrying in and out of rock crevices. I find the micro world of my tanks almost as interesting as the fish and corals. Makes me feel better about all the time and money spent on this obsession...excuse me, hobby!!

Sometimes I will just stare at my tank for hours. One of the most amazing things to me is that it is somehow possible to keep such delicate creatures alive. I just love to watch my pistol shrimp dart around and excavate his endless construction work. My anemone shrimp are somewhere new every time I look at them; in the gorgonian, then on the glass, then sitting in my zoas or something. There is always something new for me to see. For example, I discovered that since my Peacock anemone shrimp are translucent, I can watch their heart beat. Weird I know but mesmerizing.

Yes, who doesn’t? In fact, that’s what I’m doing as I type this message. I love to watch my pistol shrimp build. When I had a firefish, I would put my head up to the tank and examine all the colors and patterns on it. I love to see my urchin cruise around, waving his spikes and feet around, always carrying something new. Don’t we enjoy this hobby so much because we get to stop and see how pretty it all is? The beauty is just mesmerizing to me.

I'm happy to say yes now. Early on, it was more obsessing about what I needed to do. Now I just watch and smile most of the time :) I found my wife admiring our tank early tonight. She asked what I did to it. Confused, I said "nothing". Now I realize it was the lighting. Winter months and overcast. Tank was at peak light. Our tank is in a room that gets sunlight in the evening. I may need to be more strategic with lighting to make her happy! :)

Current USA Serene lighting. Just the background kit will work for salty. She might really enjoy a freshwater tank with the whole setup. Check out the audio version.
