Most likely a spawn rather than polyp bailout. Lazy’s Corals had something similar happen.
I thought that too, that it might have been a spawn, but I don't know, it's in spots where current wouldn't allow something to "settle" without being blown away, so I'm still not sure.

I had to let them grow a little befor I was 100% sure it was the B.N.

I was watching a macna talk with Richard Ross about coral spawning, and my system doesn't really qualify for spawning, other than it gets total darkness every night. But he also said they don't know exactly what makes coral spawn they only have a good idea of what it takes.

Thanks for sticking with the thread :)

Stylophora are closer to Pocillopora than Acropora in their spawning habits and their planulae are pretty hardy from what I understand. I’ve had Pocillopora settle in high flow areas before, so I assume they’re pretty sticky and I would assume that Stylophora are probably similar.

This birdsnest is getting bigger, I think soon I'm going to remove most of it. It’s starting to die off underneath, and it's blocking allot of other coral spots. The fish love it, thats pretty much the main hang out for all the fish, so they won't approve.

I guess the one on the right dropped a few polyps, because it's growing in several random spots on the rocks. I dont think it was from fragging because they started as a small growth, ive been watching them for a few weeks.

This thread is almost a year old!!!

this thing is still chugging along.
Nice, mine have been growing up big too. I have not ended up with any spawning of the 2 species though. I actually cut a hidden path for my fish to swim through the bird nest colonies by removing a bunch of dead branches from underneath.
