Do you run carbon and HCGFO??

Just wondering...what people are using for their reef tanks..........i am not too familiar with running chem filtration before.........if im gonna use a HCGFO and i run a refugium why would i still run it if the refugium is suppose to fuel growth of my chaeto?

How important is running carbon in the reef tank....i am just trying to get everyones opinions.
