I am setting up a 450g Planet Aquarium tank. The tank is 96"x36"x30" with a 36" steal stand. The sump was built by me and a friend using is CNC machine. The sump is 90"x28"x18" and made out of 1/2" PVC sheets. I went with a Deltec 3000i skimmer with the self cleaning head. Deltec CRTT 3000 calcium reactor. Two Panta Rhei 63 pumps for flow, and L2 pumps for the returns. Two Aqualogic Inline Heaters, with two Penguin 1HP chillers. I will be also running a TMC/AAP High Output 110 Watt UV Sterilizer. I have lots of redundancy in this build with higher end equipment. I travel for work a lot, so I am trying to make things easy for my wife.

Looking forward to seeing the PVC sump! I had considered going this route for my DIY sump but ended up doing plywood instead. Still considering it for future though but it's hard to find good examples for bigger systems.

Everything looks great, awesome build, keep updating!
Heads up on hydro wizzard 63, get couple of batteries backup for them. When power goes out, unit will stop until manually turned on again.

What did you base the decision upon to go with inline heaters? They need additional flow pumps correct?

I didn’t want heaters in the sump or the tank that could bust and break and leak chemicals or electricity into the water. I have them both hooked up to there own return pumps.

Its going to look nice when completed. Having good equipment and redundancy really helps matters. :)

Jeez. Lucky to have someone who can build a sump like that! I’d love a sump like that if I go bigger down the line.

You spared no expense in your equipment choice that’s for sure. Keep us updated on the heaters. I feel the same way about keeping them out of the tank. My 500w does fine for now here in the south.
