Lighting question. Does anyone run only blues in their schedule and have good success with lps/sps/clam growth? I run full spectrum during the day and only blues at night but notice I get an annoying Dino’s break out on the sandbed during the full spectrum. So I’m thinking about dialing back the whites and running a constant majority blue spectrum all day. Just want to make sure dialing back the whites wont prohibit certain coral stimulations. Wondering if anyone has had the same experience?

I would have thought, being brown, Dino's would love blue light only. Is there not a possibility that green things would suffer in this scenario, therefore reducing competition? I expect an overall reduction in light intensity by removing white power, may have an impact on everything, however. How confident are you that it's Dino's?

The issue isn’t the spectrum, but the mid day lighting intensity. Dinos usually swim or sink at night, then reattach during the day.

I do not believe adjusting spectrum will make any meaningful difference.

What’s the phosphate reading?

Is it possible you just can't see it under the blue light but it is still there?

Very interesting. Are you sure they are dinos and not diatoms? Just curious.

Do you carbon dose or feed amino acids?

Yeah i just had a friend microscope a sample for me and posted in macks dino group. Funny actually now the dinos looks to be turning red and matting up along the sand bed so it looks like cyano is outcompeting the dinos.. But i dont carbon dose or feed amino's. I do have carbon pellets in a bag if thats similiar to carbon dosing? I do dose bacteria atleast once a week. Different brands each month. This month im using TropicMarin Nitribiotic. Most likely a snake oil lol

That’s a good sign. It usually means the dinos are starting to die off. If you can share the microscope image, we can determine the exact species.
But i dont carbon dose or feed amino's.
Excellent. Those can make dinos much worse.

It’s not the same. The dark pellets is GAC (General activated carbon.) It’s very beneficial for removing organics, yellowing, and toxins.

The bacteria wouldn’t cause the Cyano or Dino.

Thank you so much for your help! This is the pictures i got from my friend. I only drew sample from one corner of my tank. Wish i did it in multiple spots. But this sample was in the beginning of the week right when it started seeming like dinos was shifting to cyano.

Yup. Thats what most people said in macks dino group on FB. Would a UV sweeper help? I have one on hand
I never tried it, but it should be a very effective tool for this purpose.
