Does my clam look healthy?

I bought this clam a few months ago and it has done very well. I noticed a few weeks ago it's shell on the front and a little on the back started to grow out in a weird wing looking pattern (the very white part in the pic). I am wondering if the shell is actually growing that way or the mantle is retracted in that area? Honestly it doesn't seem to be folded or scrunched but that area just looks odd to me.

I think you should send it up to me for further inspection! J/K it looks great, the white is just new shell growing and that means you are doing it right.

:bigsmile: I figured it was ok but I kinda freak out every time it sneezes or moves funny. I really started to worry as I have been reading lately about the affects of GFO on clams and I was running that for about 2 weeks but have stopped.

Yep looks good to me, all the white is new growth, and if it wants to grow that way then it will lol

Thank you. I wish I could get a more accurate picture of it. The gold fades to blue on the edges, very pretty.

If you have been running GFO with no issues then I say keep doing so. I'm currently running it on my tank full of clams.

I probably will. It seems like the info regarding GFO and clams is hit and miss. I tend to freak out when I read something and then I notice a difference in my tank. What is your take on the subject?

Yes GFO is a trigger to PM, I say run it and if you don't see any ill effects then continue to do so. But if you start to see pinching of the mantle then remove the GFO and run some carbon ASAP.
