Dog Bites

Has anyone been seriously bitten by a dog? How about a relative's dog? Are you still afraid of it?

I brought my sweet Kalvin (a Jack Rusell Terrier) over to meet & play with my sis-in-law's terrier mix puppy (4 months old) on the 4th of July. As soon as the door opened, her dog bounded out (much larger than the last time I saw it) & started fighting with Kalvin. I thought to give them a minute to decide on who was in charge but the dog kept viciously attacking Kalvin & wasn't backing off, even when I pulled Kalvin away. Kalvin held his own but the owner finally got her dog on a leash. The dog broke the leash & started on poor Kalvin again. I grabbed him up & tried to get out the door with him & the dog kept leaping at him & bit me in the arm & leg. I could barely get out the door.

The bite on my arm just bruised a bit w/4 small wounds. The one on my leg was much worse & really hurt. I could see flesh in the worst cut. It bruised badly. Now the circumstances of her & this dog is: she already had an old golden retriever from Anti-Cruelty. Her son came home from the navy & she got this puppy for him. God knows why--he's as lazy as they come, moving back into his mom's hous & not working or lifting a finger around there. This dog, as it's getting bigger, is starting to look like a terrier/pit bull mix. No trainig of any kind. No excersize either. Just hangs out in the house or yard. She never reprimanded the dog after it bit me & NEVER CALLED ME TO SEE HOW I AM!!!

I've been a dog groomer for 23 years & have been bit countless times (even on the lip) but never been viciously attacked by one. I don't think I ever will go into her house, as long as that dog's still there, nevermind that she didn't call me. My mom-in-law has called 3x to see how I was. My husband said she got bit too (gotta be by her own dog), so I left a message asking her is fhe was OK & if she wanted help with her dog--I have countless books telling what to do about vicious dogs. Still no call... Hubby says she blames me, for bringing my dog over there & greeting them at the door.

Just MOP but she shoulda called to see how you are thats just a little rude be it your fault or not her dog bit you any normal person would feel bad.I think she does but dosnt want to admit guilt and in her mind thinks by checking on you may percieve this.Just keep lots of antibiotic salve on bites should be fine.

Have you had a tetanus shot in the last few years? If not, call your MD asap and get in there. Dog bites can become seriously infected. Since the skin was broken and you could see "flesh", this sounds like something that should be evaluated. You also may need to be on antibiotics if it starts looking infected.

Your SIL is inconsiderate at the very least. It sounds like she is harboring a dangerous animal. If it has bitten you, your dog and her--it seems like she has a problem animal. I would not go near the place again. And yes, I have been bitten seriously by a dog. It was my own dog that I picked up from a shelter. I was trying to feed it and messed with his bowl. He attacked me and I was bitten twice. The little bugger pursued me all over the living room trying to bite me. I finally had to whack it with a yellow pages before it would stop chasing me.

Well, I am a dog groomer (23 years) & have been bit many times (mostly my hands), so I have actually built up an immunity to dog & even cat bites. This happened over a week ago, so it's mostly healed except the 1 largest hole. It's still pretty bruised though. I did take pics of it over the weekend.
