2 things I hate most, liars and thieves.
When I first moved in I stayed pretty quiet, resulted in a couple items getting taken from the bed of my truck. I actually got so mad I threw a chop saw in the back of my truck with it wire cable locked to the side, drove around the neighbor hood hoping whom ever was taking my stuff would see it. Knowing my stuff was taken between 10-11 at night (i get up every 2 hours for some reason) I ended up catching the kid, got him in the side of the neck with a 2x4 then pinned him to the ground by his neck. I calmy explained to him what I use to do in the military and what I'd do to his family and kids in front of him if he had any, if I came up missing anything again. Didn't call the cops, just let him go. Ended up being the next door renters daughters boyfriend. Long story short, nothing has come up missing or no one in my yard for 6 years counting.
I don't talk to anyone in my neighbor hood. No idea what they think of me. With the exception of my one neighbor. He's a nam vet. I cut his lawn, put his trash out, and do his snow removal out of respect. Very nice man, love talking with him. Always tries to pay me, I might take payment 2 times a year from him (20 dollars) just out of respect.
I too now run full cameras at my house. I also make it know I have more guns on hand then our local swat unit and enjoy cleaning my ar's in full view of my neighbors, when dirty. none are stored at my house, but no one knows that.
Michigan being a open carry state I will sometimes leg strap pistols when I take the dog out for her evening walk. I like to make a firm statement to the neighbor hood kids. They may not remember what I look like, but they remember what the dog looks like, and the gun that went with it. This is a rare occurrence I usually only do if I catch someone (that fits a profile) on camera looking a little to long at my stuff or multiple passes.
Sometimes you just need to make people think some targets are not worth it.
Now I enjoy long range shooting, 1000 to 2700 yards. And I do love my guns. But I am not a gun nut that totes a pistol around in public. I do not conceal carry as I feel no need for it in my daily travels.
My Burban is scary enough as it is. Plus a reflective blue stripe the length of the back window for my brother and support of my local leo's.
