I have a question regarding the downpipe valve adjustment.

The manual states “To raise the water level in the overflow box, rotate the valve clockwise” and “To lower the water level in the overflow box, rotate the valve anti-clockwise”

What exactly is happening when the valve is turned? Does something raise or lower? Does something open and close?

I've got the Max S 650 and the downflow valve, which is at the back in the 650, basically opens and closes a valve in the pipe to either allow more or less water through.

Simple as that.

Which direction opens it? Clockwise or anti-clockwise?

When you stand with your hand on the valve, turning away from you closes the valve, turning towards you opens the valve and it's very sensitive so only small movements.

So I suppose looking at the tank from the front, anti-clockwise closes and clockwise opens. But looking from the back it's the opposite way! Just to confuse it !lol.

This is assuming it's the same one as on the S 650.

Has anyone cleaned this valve yet? Curious how well that goes...
Took mine apart a few months back. Was fairly easy and was not as dirty as I anticipated it to be. Don't make the mistake that one of my friends did and disassemble it before turning the return pump off!

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
