Drilling a nano

I am currently in the process of breaking down my old 72 gallon bowfront that was run with a canister filter. I am currently planning on a 20 gallon long with a very simplistic approach. So brings up the question is it possible to drill the bottom of a rimless 20g long for both in and out for the sump. I would like to have both in the center, and someway have as little visible heads (coming out of the rocks etc..)
I need some obvious education because I am a greeny to the sump game. TEACH ME!!! I have read that you cannot drill through tempered glass, which just so happens that most aquarium bottoms are tempered.:cry:

No way to do it if the glass is tempered. I have drilled a 20 long though in the back.

Yes don't drill tempered. Depending on brand, 20L are not tempered on bottom. Mine isn't and I drilled the bottom, even though I patched the hole.

Is that a question I could just ask the manufacture?
Also is my idea for a sump setup possible? Not having an overflow box and using some sort of pvc or something with a sort of mesh to keep from things clogging it? I just don't know if my idea for this setup is possible.

Might be a dumb question but how can you tell if glass is tempered if it does not have any labels saying so?

you can either check with people that may know or there's a way, not sure if its 100% but you use a led screen I think, like a computer and use polarized sun glasses and if you see weird rainbow marks in the glass then its tempered. Not sure exactly how its done. But best to check with manufacturer
